SA Post Office Strike

Mail sorting staff at Witspos and Tshwane Mail are back at work today and they have started to work off the build-up of mail items. The SA Post Office has finally been granted an interdict against listed striking workers which makes it illegal for them to approach any Post Office facility to within 500 metres. This makes it much harder to intimidate and threaten employees who go to work. The international mail centre at Johannesburg Airport is operating, but not at full capacity yet. We are working with the authorities to give employees there the peace of mind that it is safe to go to work.

SAPO FB Page.

I think the Afrihost reps moonlight for SAPO, because all I see from that statement is BS.

It looks like months of backlog are gonna get cleared very quickly according to that FB comment. So either it's BS or the Postal people in JHB usually sit on their butts even when there is no strike. :)

I have been waiting for 3 parcels to arrive via ems since june. 2 of them arrived in durbs via ship. The 3rd is still missing. My mate went to the durban mail centre and was told the 2 parcels have been sent up to jhb now. I will go tomorrow to the jhb mail centre by the airport to see if they have arrived.

EMS cannot be sent by ship. The problem lies with the shipper then. EMS is an express service which has to meet UPU criteria.

Let me know how it goes, today they weren't letting people in.

Eish. Were you at the EMS by the airport? Why weren't they letting you in? Lots of people wanting their parcels I'm sure.

Also lived666 I ordered LIPO batteries. At the stage when I ordered they were not allowed to be flown by airline so they had come by ship. Hence why it has taken over 130 days to get to durbs and not directly to jhb.

Gates closed, security said they were all on strike and not letting people in.
I guess they don't read facebook or nobody told them they not on strike.
Anyhow maybe tomorrow will be different, so quite keen to see, maybe I was there too early today and they were still deciding over coffee if they actually felt like working or not.

Let us know if you go to JIMC today. I managed to get through to Cape Mail who can just see there is no movement, parcel in the massive backlog, as usual no answers at JHB numbers.

Well as you said. Guards won't let me in. The guard has mentioned they have skeleton staff and dealing with a huge backlog. However the guard took the tracking numbers and has handed them to the staff member to check for the parcels. So let's see

Dude stop hassling that single SAPO guy who is sorting the JIMC parcels. He's delaying our stuff in getting through while he looks for your thing. :)

And it's good they have guards, so maybe our stuff is safe.

batteryupgrade.com has free FedEx economy

First post in our box for over two months, a letter posted in PE on August 22. However Lyttelton Post Office is still closed today.

But the Hawkers and Car Guards are all back on duty.

I tried them, only say free registered mail. As we know, that won't arrive.

They sent that via FedEx economy. I've had 4 shipments from them in September. All by FedEx Eco.

Email them to confirm. But the items were Li ion batteries.

I chose this option:

For additional customer satisfaction, we do however offer the possibility of sending your order by registered post (you will have to sign for it on receipt); this will cost $3,- extra.

But by law they're not allowed to airmail Li ion batteries. They sent them in specially marked small FedEx boxes delivered by FedEx. I did not pay any import charges as the batteries were $22 each or something like that.

Very helpful lady there. She mentioned any items coming up from durbs goes via the witspos depot. That's where my parcels are at the moment. Going there tomorrow to see if I can get them. Has anyone else been there before?
