SA Post Office Strike

I have not received any mail, new or old since the strike was over.
So they might as well still be striking because you cant even tell the difference between being at work and not being at work at all

I just received an Ebay item that was posted 18/09/2014...

Really?
I'm holding thumbs for 3 items sent in October.

I ordered an item from the US in December and it has gone via USPS, I am a bit worried now that it will take months to get out of the SA post office system.

I wish everything could be digital. One of those Star Trek replicators. Just buy the plan and you have what you wanted.

Just had one USPS priority mail parcel arrive (via EMS) - shipped Dec 21st.

Another parcel shipped Dec 12 (USPS regular) is still sitting at JIMC.

Seems to be moving really slowly. Perhaps clearing the christmas backlog?

I need to post a book from Johannesburg to East London. The book costs R250 and weighs 1kg, so dont want to pay an exorbitant amount for postage. Any advice? Can I trust the post office overnight counter to counter service? I dont think it's worth paying R100 for a parcel worth R250.

I just had a book sent from jhb to dbn, via normal postage, and it took 23 days.

Wow this is really getting long in the tooth.
I am so pissed with the lack of communication from SAPO regarding how far they are with the backlog.

It is impossible to contact them and when you eventually do get hold of them, they dont have answers.

Quick question if anybody can answer.
A parcel containing electronics left Singapore on the 19th of December.

With the tracking number I received from them it only states that the parcel left Singapore to South Africa.

The tracking Number is RA8555...SG
Can I use this number in the Track and trace from SAPO to track the movement?
Or will SAPO send me a new number to use?

How do you know its at customs?

Regards

Those are the same questions we're all asking.
You need to local tracking number which you can't get because no e-mails are replied to, no phones are answered, etc.

I have a parcel that should have arrived from the US by now according to the delivery schedule.
I have no way of tracking it or seeing where it is once it left the US.

You could use www.parceltrack.co.za (when it decides to work properly again) to track your parcels. You can use the international number and it will actually show you the local number if one has been issued. Alternatively use www.17track.net as it can also track parcels from source to destination but it wont show you the local numbers...

The problem is that parceltrack is not showing local numbers.
It seems that either the parcel is stuck at customs or not in the country.
I'm willing to bet it's customs that is the hold-up but there's no way of contacting them as I mentioned above.

Yes if parceltrack shows no results then it means that the item hasn't been scanned in the country yet. It however doesnt mean that it's not physically in the country and lying in a pile somewhere... :D

And that's the issue.
Customs will not notify you that they have it so how the fark are we supposed to track this parcel or get it cleared via customs?
