SA Post Office Strike

My package was cleared by customs on 1st July and sitting at Pretoria Mail Centre since 7th July and they refuse to deliver my package. I call them but the phone just rings . No one cares to answer .

The Customer Care Line say that can't do anything.

Incompetency at its best !

So this has to be the quickest time I've ever received a parcel from Deal Extreme, under a month.

Posted on the 13/08, arrived at my PO yesterday.

Sadly I got hit with customs charges and its the first time I've ever had to paid, R35 for a $9 order.

My company buys those pre-paid envelopes to post statements every month- we called almost every post office on the west coast and northern suburbs and all sold out and they have no idea when they are getting stock again- apparently problems with the supplier which I read as- "due to non payment we will not supply anymore lol." Eventually found a box at a PO in Edgemead.

USPS priorty mail international seems to be moving nicely again. 3-4 weeks to be delivered to my local branch. Only problem is, the tracking is broken lately. USPS and SAPO track and trace have no updates on packages that should have full tracking. Once they get into the country, all updates just stop.

Ordered parcels on Monday (14/9), one from China the other from the U.S. Crossing fingers that they at least reach their rightful owner

Sapo looks to Treasury for funds

Johannesburg - The South African Post Office (Sapo) has requested almost R500 million from the Treasury to fund the payment of its creditors in the current financial year.

Sapo said it needed R480.6m to settle its debts and had only managed to pay R150m to critical creditors since last month.

Simo Lushaba, the newly-appointed chairman of the board of directors, told the telecoms and postal services portfolio committee briefing last week that financial constraints had continued to affect the payment of creditors and the overall functioning of the post office.

Backlog

Lushaba said key creditors that had remained unpaid for extended periods had resulted in intermittent interruptions of the post office’s operation.

He said as a result, some of the creditors had levied interest on the debt, which had made the financial recovery of the post office even more difficult to achieve.

“We are still sitting with a backlog; we have been able to service that backlog quite significantly from the beginning of August this year. We are currently sitting at R400m that is a backlog that we still have to service,” Lushaba said.

So I finally got my collection slip for a parcel that was sent in February. The cost of the item was R2000. I see on the slip the amount due to customs is R1277? How is that even possible? The item is a windscreen for my bike.

I think go and fetch it and ask them to show you how the customs fee was calculated. I wouldn't pay that amount...over 50% of the actual value!

You get charged vat on the dollar value (I assume) converted into Rands based on the exchange rate when they asses the parcel. And then import duties are also tacked on, anything from 0 to 45%. And sometimes there's a handling fee of some sorts. They will provide a breakdown if you ask.

Is there anybody else we can contact in regards of a claim that was submitted for stolen goods.

Would it actually have any benefit to contact ICASA regarding this matter.

As I have now tried the post office manager and customer service and none can help me.
Surely there is some one else we can escalate the matter to?

I see they thought it was clothing, when in actual fact is a motorcycle part. Had to go back to customs for a reassessment. Item was originally sent, in APRIL!!! now that's speedy.
