SA Post Office Strike

Also been waiting since 23 Nov. They couldn't give a damn.
 
So I received a reply from [email protected]. It seems like all they do is search the tracking number on the USPS site, and tell me the last info from there, which I could just do myself :confused: I was told by the sender that I won't get any updates on the tracking after the shipment leaves the US. I told them this in a reply email, but no response to that :mad:

What to do now? I'm sure the package has been sitting in the country somewhere for at least a month
 
There is really nothing you can do but wait. I even offered to pick up my parcel from joburg hub but that's not allowed. That would mean they have less to steal.
 
Try [email protected] and when a real human replies you can bug them.

I sent an email to them this morning requesting a local tracking number for a package sent by Deutsche Post which was received in SA on 18/12/2016 according to the DP tracking number. The lady who responded gives me the same info that the DP website gives ie received on 18/12 but apparently it still needs to be scanned into the Post Office's system to get a local tracking number.

So it will lay in limbo until someone decides to scan it.:whistle:

If you have her personal email address keep bugging her with an email to that address as well. I had a parcel received in SA on 2/11 eventually delivered 7/12. I kept on sending emails to whoever I could and then they got it through customs plus a week to the local PO office. Good luck
 
Do the post office issue an SA tracking number once it lands? How does one get informed when it reaches the destination?

No the international tracking number gets scanned in.

You referring to the SAPO app? My international tracking number does not work there.

I suspect there is a huge room piled with boxes and parcels somewhere in the JIMC (joke-international-mail-center), every time a courier/truck/cargo plane/ship arrives all the content is sent there and dumped on the floor. Some plonk walks into the room every mornig and picks up 10 or so items and processes them. On a good day maybe 12...

Between handover from international to joke exchange the parcel is untraceable, it is not yet on the SAPO system, but "off" the international one, you just have to wait and hope.
 
Ask them about why they closed the JIMC PO counter, and how much havoc that has caused.
Why did they close the only small link the public actually had between SAPO, customs and parcels. The only place you could actually get a bit of service, even though it might take you several hours.
Without the public counter, service is 1000x worse, and the situation took a huge step backwards. Can't even reach people via cellphone there anymore.
It is almost as though someone is deliberately trying to make the SAPO fail. There was a slim chance for a brief moment there...and then it was gone.

Yeah you can add it before hand and the moment it goes "live" it will start updating.

Been very useless to me the last few packages.
 
Yip, Status is unknown for my package that left the HK border post on 24Nov... I foresee a long wait until the holiday season is over...
