Of course it will. You neglect maintaining roads, their problems get worse and eventually it cost 'billions' to fix, which would have costed much less if maintenance was performed regularly. Unfortunately, the ANC wants to fill its own koffirs or just sit and do nothing, so the country's infrastructure goes to waste!

Bad roads = you need a new set of shocks for your car every 6 months. Or tyres...

Cape Town - Urgent intervention is necessary to halt the deterioration of South Africa's roads network, said the Democratic Alliance on Thursday.

The party was responding to Transport Minister Jeff Radebe, who said the present provincial roads-maintenance backlog amounted to R72bn, and only R5.2bn had been allocated for the 2008/'09 financial year.

Heres the problem. When R72billion is given, your not to save that money, departments are to use them all

Honestly, is anything in this country 'not' in a state of decay?

lol... Freudian slip?

"Coffers" something you put money in
"koffir" hehe... I dunno... you tell me :p

sorry, just nitpicking :D

Its the african way, why fix today what we can blame on colonialism tomorrow.

The problem is: who is going to spend the money? There are no roads engineers left who know how to spend that money. It's the same problem in health, water etc. Shortage of money is not the problem and any monies left idle for long enough will disappear.

Last I read was that national roads were in good condition the rest are appalling.

You know whats even worse when the do "fix" a road and its worse after words. I look at the R300, seriously its worse now than it ever was

I have noticed the roads deteriorate heavily in the last 2 years. It is as if maintenance has been completely put on hold. Even in main roads such as Jan smuts etc there are HUGE potholes that are just left there.

Just another example showing our goverment failing horribly in providing any kind of service to the people. (Thanks again to all the forumites who keep voting for ANC)

The next thing to go will be the water supply. Mark my words! Johanessburg gets most of its fresh water from 100km away (hartebeespoort dam, vaal dam etc) This all has to be pumped thru pipes (that have been sitting in the ground for 20 years now without maintenance). I have it on good authority that absolutely nothing has been maintained with regards to water supply. Expect more disease outbreaks and water impurities to be found in the coming years.

Words marked :p

But seriously, the water here in most of randburg is not safe to drink as of today.

I can't figure this out, I get nailed when i pay for my petrol to keep the roads and such fix, and then I pay for poll's and such. where does all my money go??? I mean, why should I pay for the roads if nothing is done about them.

I went to the Drankensberg this whole week, and wow, I should have taken a 4x4! I mean, at no point did i see a gravel road ahead sign, but thats just what the roads have come down to! you end up leaving on the road to try mis the massive pot holes that are just waiting to destroy a car.

it's already starting mate, so let me get it straight, first it was telkom, then came the roads that are continuously being destroyed, then eskom then it will be water! sigh, what next?

Must be from all the rain, or maybe its due to the coal getting wet. Wonder what lame excuse they will think of. You can be sure the minister of transport will still be getting their fat bonus at the end of the year.

Is there anything in the country that isn't falling apart!

/me goes out and gets a drink!

"Disappear" :D:D;)

Geez, have you guys ever 'cycled' the Argus route?
Geezuz, that route has bad roads and you don't really notice how bad till you riding a bicycle on it and you finish the race with pins and needles.
I see they upgraded it 'somewhat' for this year's race but yasus!
We do have bad roads and I've cycled on alot of them.

How about the government removes all tax on petrol (should more than halve the price) and then converts everything to toll roads run by private companies? Then we might actually have something approaching a decent road network. It'll probably work out cheaper too.
