SADV Installation Feedback/Progress for Estates/Complexes

I have had **** internet for the last 2 years

I am moving to an estate that has SADV

Will these years to come entail the same as my previous 2?

Judging by the non-existant/low number of SADV complaints I've seen on mybb, probably not.

I am embarking on being the next @gmathews - Trying to bring about the change I wish to see in my complex.
Already in contact with managing agent and HOA, have some meetings setup and will try to get the ball rolling.

Judging by your timelines we should see implementation completed around August this year...

Great. I haven't replied on this thread because frankly, SADV have been quiet about what the plan is for the going live date. Seems like the link to the node is still outstanding, as well as a few more houses to get drop fibre. They haven't responded to any messages since December.

@pinball wizard should be able to provide an update
To be honest, I have attempted to contact him on phone and here, to no avail. Dropped a msg to trustee managing the fibre at our complex and he's heard nothing about the go live date. We're all just pretty much in the dark.

With the December break and all that I don't think we can blame them.
Let's see if they get back to you during the course of this week, I did speak to Pinball earlier today about another matter.

Fair enough, but the last message here addressed to him was in November already, and I've msged him privately as well. I've seen it before with SADV, they're quick to pull the trigger/reply quickly to get new sign ups, but quiet with information once everything is in place.

That's actually a bit disappointing. Lack of feedback would drive me up the wall as well.

As a prospective SADV client we are watching this space very closely.

Agree. So I managed to get in touch with their third party installers (contracting company), seems like we should, touch wood, go live in around 2 weeks. Taking it with a pinch of salt though, they've given a similar ETA before and didn't manage to reach it.

So sounds like the fibre cabinet is the next thing to install, coupled with a few outstanding houses.

Holding thumbs.

Hi, the delay in this is Rustenburg council issuing wayleaves. This was communicated to the relevant body corporate members as I understand it.

Hi

Thanks for responding. Has this been resolved, and do you have an idea on what the rollout status to going live is?

Met pinball wizard yesterday at my complex. Getting the ball rolling on my end with the HOA and all the rest.
So let's say 15 January was the first meeting, now we need to get approval from HOA trustees and then get the SADV planning and architecture sorted.

Great news, keep us posted on progress. Hopefully everyone will be on board, was a bit tricky for us initially.

Thank you!

Our complex is a HOA, with the trenching line being completely communal property. Thus, homeowners can't object.

This should make things somewhat easier.

Glad to see this thread is still alive.

Update from my side. I had to pretty much arrange everything between everyone involved. If I hadn't then everything would have moved much slower. So my advice is to do what I did and get elected as a trustee and ask permission from Body Corp to act on their behalf in all matters related to Fibre. Body Corp were glad that I got involved because it is less work for them and they're not particularly tech savvy. For instance, we needed to sign a doc urgently but Body Corp was on holiday... thankfully, I could sign on their behalf. It just makes things so much easier.

W.r.t. the drop fibres. At first SADV said they wanted to do drop fibres after trenching and installing the buddy boxes in the communal areas. Then after they did that they said, no, they would rather wait until the backbone is completed (we were still waiting for the way leave from municipality). However I said lets go ahead and get the drop fibres installed so long, as there is no real reason to wait. However, it was hard work waiting for me... I had to pretty much arrange with the whole complex to be available on a certain date for contractors to enter their units. It was complicated, because the conduits that we used were old intercom conduits that daisy chained between units. So the contractors needed access to all units at once to pull the drop fibres through... I arranged with tenants to either be there on the date, or to leave their keys with me. I also had to look up who some of the flat owners were, get their agent details, and get keys from their agents because some flats were unoccupied... What a mission. Additionally, many of the tenants were quite difficult and I had a hard time keeping everyone happy. It's kind of like, most people want fibre and they are excited when they hear about the plans for it, but they don't realize how much time and effort goes into pulling something off like this, and they should be thanking you for taking initiative to bring fibre to the complex... Instead they would moan about leaving their keys, have strange people in their homes etc... I must say props to SADV and the contractors who they're using in my region, they were extremely professional, friendly and trustworthy.

Anyways so in the end it was successful and the contractors installed all the drop fibres on 14 December. Today they finished splicing the drop fibres into the one buddy box and tomorrow they will splice the second buddy box and cabinet.

I was also contacted today by the SADV project manager and he wanted me to sign a DFA LLA letter for permission to go-ahead with the backlink order, so that it can be placed in the queue. I'm not sure but I think this means the way leave was approved and they will commence trenching outside the complex as soon as they have a team available. Holding thumbs.

Thanks for your comprehensive feedback there.

I think our installation is a lot easier because we have freestanding units not Multi-Dwelling units so it will make things much easier.

We still need to get the agreements signed by the HOA before we can even proceed with any planning, so very early days for us.

I might actually suggest that they start building the internal network ASAP, inside the complex as no wayleaves are required. Once this is nearly done we should be able to get trenching and connect to the nearest DFA node aggregation site.
