Safari sets the pace

Apple claims Safari 4 is the fastest browser ever. This may or may not be true but it is going to give competitors such as Firefox and Internet Explorer a run for their money.

I have used Opera for a while now and it is extremely fast and lightweight. I am pretty sure it will outperform Safari.

Someone must just make one browser called Mozilla Opchromifari

It's fast. Pity I'm on 384kb broadband! I'd say Chrome is a little faster though - although in OS X Safari is king!

Silly browser actually, struggles with many websites. Such as FNB and Telkom etc etc.

Considering safari and chrome use the same rendering engine, it would mean anything it can do, chrome can do just as well.

as for the javascript speed tests... well done on that, google needs the speed boost to keep it's online activities alive against MS and Adobe which means the "web 3.0" war will be alot more interesting and higher quality

Will i switch from firefox? No.

i found the latest safari not as easy to use as firefox. i got a bit frustrated and went back to firefox.

Nothing can compete with firefox at this point. Chrome etc are nice but missing functionality. When firefox is missing something then I find a plugin and hooray it now does what I want it to.

Safari is kinda cool. Used it since the beta stage and I like it! Like all new things you need to get used to it for it to be any good!

Until all other browsers have an equally extensive add-on community like firefox does there can never be a browser war as firefox owns them all. I don't mind loosing a couple milliseconds here and there if I can have a browser that I control fully

Switched from Firefox. Happy for some time now and very fast on OSX and much nicer than Chrome. The only thing Chrome has going for it is speed but otherwise not very exciting to use at this stage.

Its got the best results on the ACID test as per the article so speak to the developers at FNB and Telkom about non compliance. They as per usual probably work only on IE properly because some developers cant see passed their noses.

Silly browser actually, struggles with many websites. Such as FNB and Telkom etc etc.

MS ISA server authentication on proxy

Doesn't bring up ISA dialog box for authentication on a proxy on WinXP :(. Safari 3 did.

Looks nice, but once you use it for a while you realise there is nothing special. Back to Firefox - again. My purely subjective ranking is as follows currently.

1. Firefox - still the king because it is so configurable.
2. Opera 10 beta
3. Safari
4. IE
5. Chrome

PS IE ahead of chrome, because once you get past the fact that Chrome is quite speedy, there is not much else there.

Been running chrome, firefox 3.5 beta and opera 10 beta, i thought opera was fast but damn on OSX safari 4 is like lightning.

I finally got round to uploading some of my browser benchmarks.

All run under pretty much the same conditions.

That's one massive improvement for Firefox !!!
Still need to get the Final Safari 4 to see what's happened, still blazingly fast.

Ag, shame, look who's trailing at the bottom of the list. (My heart bleeds lumpy custard.)

edit: added Safari 4 final. WOW !!!
edit: added Opera 9.51. Sorry, no Opera 10 beta 1 ... it keeps stalling on the third "canvas" render on screen 3/6.
