SAIX Outage

Could this be a cause of www.google.com not working on my Chrome browser (Facebook works) - but it works on my IE browser? :/
Could this also effect Dropbox?

From another forum discussion:

Basic issue: Software - Telkom wishes to inform the public of planned maintenance on its SAIX Network Caching systems on 11 November 2012. During this time Internet users may experience degraded international connectivity affecting response and slow page download times. Local connectivity will not be affected. Telkom has taken all precautions to minimise the impact of this necessary exercise on services and wishes to thank its customers in advance for their patience during this time

Full Problem Description

Ref: NN0009556Category Planned Work Type: Planned Work Status: New
TimeDown: Sun, 11 Nov 2012 00:01:00 +0200 ETTR: 5 Hours
Areas affected:
Progress:

Only local sites working for me... hope they sort this out soon, getting irritated with all of the connectivity problems happening lately.

SAIX still down for me as well, switching to Afrihost in the meantime. Funny how its mostly HTTP that's affected because I could still log in and download stuff from Steam. I really hope they get everything back online because its times like these I wish they had Seacom as an alternative route for their customers.

They do... it is SAIX, not SAT cable outages.

Ditto intermittent speeds and variable sites that seem to work or not, as the whim takes them. Also on TelkomInternet.
Is there any obvious reason why some sites work in one browser but not in others? Can open FBook in IE, but not in Chrome or FF. Cant open Twitter in any of them.
All very erratic and confusing for little old me.

I can't get onto Battlelog :(

Telkom is making changes to their caching server. Browsers like Chrome like to refresh their cache every now and then while others like IE keep using their old cache even if its a little outdated - at least that's as far as I can figure out.

Funny how its Afrihost to the rescue for many affected by these problems.

Edit: Some traffic is getting through to the SAT3 cable, which is why some people's stuff is still working. Doesn't help us, though.

I have 2 free 1 gig accounts which are very useful in times like these.

This is actually quite erratic. Thought I was good, but many sites aren't working at all while others are flying.

sigh....now afrihost has gone fooked local works fine but international is slooooooow

This was one major big issue, hope we get some kind of detailed report on what caused it.

All i know is, Ti won't allow this to happen again for such a long downtime :p.
