Samsung Galaxy 10.1 tablet local availability

Great - bought one - and it just finished charging, turn it on and first thing I notice is a dead pixel.

Does anyone know how the CPA affects this sort of thing? I know I'm going to get the usual crap tomorrow when I try and return it about their needing to be x amount of dead pixels per cm.

Oh dear. You got it from incredible hey? If it was a Vodacom Store I would have told you to take it back pronto so that they can send it in for a OBF claim and once approved issue you with a brand spanking new unit. I am not sure what the policy is with incredible though. I suggest you go and ask them as soon as possible...definately before 7 days.

About to find out now ... under the CPA I doubt they can deny a replacement... OBF irrelevant, R7,500 I wont accept dead pixels.

It was exchanged...new one also has a dead pixel, but its about 8mm from the side, so not going to bother exchanging it - shocking QA by Samsung.

You know...I am not sure why...but I cant get that "Xoom Xoom Xoom" song out of my head now that they used in that Mazda TV ad *grin*

Perhaps rather take it back and ask if they will exchange this one also. You dont want after a month or two find that it is actually irritating the living daylights out of you and then its too late.

I would return it as well, there is no way I would even try and live with a dead pixel on a device of that price, maybe even turn the next one on in the shop to make sure it doesn't have them either. If they cant get you one that is working properly get your money back.

Hmmm... busy looking online...

You have to be about 10cm away from the screen to see it, at normal viewing distance you can't see it.

I downloaded a dead pixel test app that cycles colours... and you can see the tiny black dot on each of the colours.

Seriously annoying that this will be the 3rd one if I return it, I actually wouldn't have seen it if I didn't test it with the above app because of the previous one.

Hmm, I can't convince myself to spend R7500 for this tablet. I am now considering importing a WiFi-only model from the states. Best price I saw this far was $450 +65 for shipping on ebay. With shipping and taxes that would work out to just under R4400...

I'm almost convinced South Africa gets sub-standard products. I have yet to have a problem with an imported product, its always local stuff that gives problems.

I see Samsung have a 7 day zero defect policy on pixels - so maybe I should go back again, test it in store, and if the next one has the same problem, get a refund and go with an iPad 2.

Maybe the store you bought from received a bad batch. There is hardly anyone complainging about dead pixels on the xda-developers forum in the galaxy 10.1 section. So it really seems to be either a local or batch issue.

Or just my luck :p or they not checking.

Like I said, I wouldn't have even noticed this one if it hadn't been for the previous one making me check this one.

---

been doing some reading, its black - so the likely hood of it working again is slim as opposed to a stuck pixel

Also take note of the serial numbers, I have had it where they tried to swap a return unit with one I returned before.

Here's a bit of an upsetting turn.

We have two iPad2's, one iPad 1 and one Galaxy 10.1 (excluding mine)

We all checked for dead pixels, iPads came out clean... the other guys Galaxy had two... and he's more upset than me because he's had his for two weeks :p

I'll see the same spot :p

Yeh - he got it early through a corporate account... these things are tiny though, so they're difficult to spot unless you know its there... then you always see it, sucks to be him :p

I really don't want an iPad though... I might just get a refund and wait for the Transformer 3G :(

Looks like I am definately going to stay away from the overpriced local stock then and just go for an imported Wifi only model...
