Samsung Galaxy 10.1 tablet local availability

My plan is to go to the store tonight to discuss it with them, they have two options
1.) Refund me
2.) I try another one in-store - if it ok, we're sorted, if not, refund and I'm done with the Galaxy Tab.

The only issue is its a hassle to setup, add google account, download application to test, try and spot tiny dot.

I dont know why but it always seem like SA is getting returned crap from 1st world, and I am not just referring to Tablets/phones. I almost never seem to have a problem with hardware bought outside of SA be it PC's phones or even components. The failure rate of things bought locally just seems to be much higher.

I know its normally we just say it as a jest(we the worlds dumping ground) but I am more and more starting to think of it as fact.

Its exactly what I said.

The first one I opened had some sticky grime on the back, and the sticker on the screen had spots under it.... I initially thought it was a demo unit.

Still feel like an idiot taking it back for a dot that's 1/10th of a millimetre, but I suppose at R7,500 it should be perfect, as per my SO. I even checked my Desire HD and 2 LCDs at work - no dead pixels.

I also think so. I never have had any issues with stuff bought in Europe. And I have bought several phones, notebooks and cameras. No issues at all, no dead pixels, nothing. Maybe regulations in those countries require stronger quality controls which force companies to test batches more extensively while they skip this process for local stock...
 
I got mine from the Samsung store in Midrand...no dead pixel
maybe that store got a bad batch
 
How did you check? I downloaded an app from the Market :)

These things are TINY... literally 1/10th of a mm.... but once you've seen it :p

Running an app at the moment that might fix it, but its more for stuck pixels.

must say, so far I am loving the tab 10.1
 
any good apps you found?
do you have the samsung readers hub on your tab?
 
I haven't checked for any dead pixels and dont think I want to... I just did a visual inspection... :D

PULSE - a cool way to read news and any rss feeds.. (for ipads there's FLUD which does the same thing)

RockPlayer with uPnPlay on the Tab (and Tversity on the PC) for streaming content from your PC

a media player that seems to play all the 720p mkv files I have tried is Diceplayer

So over the local rip-off price. Think I am gonna go the US import way. Looks like I can get it off amazon/newegg with myus for R4800 including all taxes and shipping and for R4400 off ebay. Its for the 16Gb Wifi only model but that's all I really need. I just can't convice myself to pay R7500!

Yeah I agree it is expensive....but you paying 7500for the 32gb 3G model.
If you compare it to the UK prices...we are about a R1000 more.

No, UK has 20% Vat. We have 14%. Once you take that into consideration it suddenly is more like R1500. I also couldn't care less about having 32Gb of storage! 3G is nice but not if I can save R1000 for a Wifi model!

If you don't want the storage....then you are right, it probably doesn't make sense to shell out that much.
