Samsung Galaxy Ace

Hi All
Anyone with a Samsung Galaxy Ace.
Its a new mid range Andriod phone from Sammy.
Similar to Galaxy S, but with no HD video recording, smaller screen (same size as Iphone), does not have the AMOLED screen, and lower resolution.
Difference in price between the S and Ace is 2k.

1. My worry is battery life - do i have to live with this as an issue if i want to get a smartphone.

2. The reason i want the Ace is becos of price. I only use a phone cos of its primary functions (calls, sms, occasional email). But i want a decent camera now and then and video recording and most importantly i want a GPS application for golf (the good ones are only available on Marketplace and Apple Store).

3. I might even look at an Iphone if i can get a good deal?

I have been advised that Samsung is the best (also lowest radiation) as HTC and SE have issues when repairing.

Any opinions, BTW if i decide to spend more money i will never buy the Galaxy S when the S2/LG optimus II/HTC sensation are atleast a month away.

I am coming from a Nokia 5800.

Hmmm, I've read over it the specs and there's some concerns...

The CPU is crap... it runs the old version of ARM's instrustion set, version 6 IIRC, which means no flash support (at all...), and runs slow... very slow. The Adreno 200 gpu is decent though, but I think Samsung used the smaller screen res to make the phone less demanding when running games and what not.

It has only 384mB of ram , this was a major problem with the HTC wildfire! The LG Optimus one had 512MB, which saved it... so I foresee you running out of ram pretty quickly when you multitasking.

The screen res isn't very nice. I mean, you'll look to your friends iphone and want more, that's just how it is sadly!

The major problem with telling yourself that you'll just use it for messaging, and calls, is that it's android. At some point you going to start downloading useful apps, and start using the OS more and more, but if the phone is limiting, I think that will frustrate you. So maybe aim a little higher.

Maybe dig around for a similar phone that might offer better features?

My friend has this phone, and I have the Galaxy S.

My screen definitely looks better, and it's probably snappier in some areas, but when you don't have your Galaxy S / iPhone owning friend next to you, then it's really a great little phone. (It's nice for peeps with smaller hands...like my friend, hehe)
But I think it's the best you'll get in that price class - definitely way better than the Wildfire which is same price region. The build quality of the Ace actually feels much better than the S.

If you want a budget Android I'd go for this one. If you want to spend more, wait for the S2 / Sensation or if you really have to, the iPhone 4.

I see a 800mhz vs 1ghz processor and think, ahh not so much of a difference.
Also just realised that QVGA video recording is crap - its the same as my current Nokia 5800 secondary camera :wtf:
Also, has a lower resolution than my 5800.

Will have a look around, but competitors are LG optimus 1 and HTC desire.

The keyword is budget - so my research has pointed me to the Ace (the video camera though has put me off).
Also, i am in my thirties now, so the cool factor of a phone does not apply, i am just interested in the GOLF GPS apps.

Uhhh, I think you'll find that phones like the Motorola Defy perform much better, given they use 800mhz ARM A8 processors (basically, it's the same processor in Galaxy S, only @ 800MHZ). Has 512 ram, and the gpu is alright. The screen is better too. Just you gotta deal with shyte support from Motorola.

The HTC Desire is an epic phone, even after a year!
