Which is the cheapest retailer to purchase the Note 3? Don't want a contract just cash will put in an Afrihost sim and run as a data device.

The cheapest used to be Telkom Mobile - when I was looking for a Note 3 in November last year, they quoted me something like R9 000.00, but I ended up buying one from Vodacom on contract (decision was based on the model that Vodacom sells). I went back to Telkom Mobile last week to purchase a second Note 3 for cash, and was told by them that they no longer sell for cash...only sell on contract.

I then went to Vodacom on friday last week (I really wanted another LTE N9005) and paid an inflated price for one. They initially asked for R10 800.00 cash. I told them it was a rip-off price. They dropped it to R 10 000.00, and I bought it. I know I paid too much...but I wanted one quickly, and I really wanted the N9005 version that only Vodacom sells (if I am correct). So now I have two, both the N9005 version - one on contract and one for cash.

OK Apex Launcher is allowing me to use smaller icons and add more rows for now without rooting my phone :)

You can do it..... Trust me it is worth it. My note3 is listed under my household insurance as well. So I dont care about samsung and their warranties telling me what I can and can not do with something I bought.

As far as I am concerned, android is open source and we are allowed to do what we want with the os. If you have the knowledge to do so.
If I root I assume that my warranty will be void.
If it does get fixed under warranty its a bonus.

My s3 was rooted 3 months after i got it. I removed the Root and flashed original xfa 4.3 onto it, took it back to Nashua for repairs. Motherboard, screen and sound card had to be replaced. They just booked me out with a brand new S3. So Tbh, rooting and unrooting is very easy. The technicians, from my experience, do not know what they are talking about and hardly ever check if a phone has been rooted.

But now we have Knox...

And vodacom/mtn repair lackey's know how to read a knox log? If they couldn't turn the phone on and notice that it was not running branded OS, doubt they will be able to check a knox log. Anyway my 2c :)

I suppose we are all here to read each others 2c. When I had my One X I rooted and ROM'd it within 2 weeks of having it. That was a big risk considering the lack of HTC support in S.A. and the non-removable battery. Well,in hindsight, it all worked out in the end 'cos I never had a problem with the phone. But I always knew that there was a way to revert back to stock and we also had triangle away.

Now I guess it's just the Premium ADH warranty and Knox that is holding me back. I'm still undecided right now. But I'm sure I will in the future... Just a matter of when.

I can strongly recommend Apex Launcher for tweaking your phone.

Got my Note 3 looking sweet and just the way I want it now. Reduced icons to 85% in size and gone with 5 columns by 8 rows.
Can fit all my apps and shortcuts onto home screen. No more scrolling multiple screens :p

Note 3 was a good choice

I tried both, but personally found Apex easier to use.

Apex is also my go to launcher but been using smart launcher for a few days, and it's pretty cool. Enjoy having my apps in categories and the home screen is a bit different from other launchers but has made it a bit easier to find things. Well, for me at least.

I prefer the GEL launcher. Purely due to the Google Now feature being built into it. I love the whole voice integration and daily news + nearby locations on the go. Apex is amazing for customization, but for day to day. Google Experience Launcher is my choice :)

Do you have a link? Want to have a look at it.

GEL is also cool but not much customizing available.
Google, Google experience launcher apk and find the latest APK.

I also rooted my N9005 a month or so ago and been quite happy even though Knox is 0x1 ...

I didn't reduce my icons size, I simply created folders on one page, corresponding to various categories ("Tools", "Games", "Reference", "Office", etc. and filled the folders with the relevant Apps. And that page is not full of folders, only about half-full, so plenty of space for more folders !!

On another page I put Calendar widget full-size ...

Those two pages plus my Home page in the middle gives me a max of three pages that I must look at - works for me ... The advantage, I can see what the icons are because they are still standard size ...
