I saw at century city and they had an exhibition there. I really really really like this phone just confirmed it for me :) hope mtn gets on tue :D

You can get one via Nashua Mobile, they have. They couldnt help me asy contract is with MTN SP

I'm worried about the battery life on this thing now, after charging it all night it's been off the charger for barely 20 minutes and the battery is already on 98%, and all I did was make a 7 minute phone call.

And in the time it took to type this post and attach the screenie, another percent left us.

That sounds like great battery life to be honest.

:D

Nice! What is your screen on time?

You can increase battery life further by disabling Location Services > Wifi and Network Location. This should eliminate the usage reported by Google Services.

Almost bought one from Vodashop in East Rand Mall for R8999. :what:
Luckily sanity prevailed and will shop for better price

If anyone really wants to spend money and buy the phone, Samsung at Vodaworld are running a special where you get a free window flip cover with every purchase of a note 3. Those covers are worth around 7 to R800

Chances of cheaper than R8999?

On a Voda contract, the handset price paid over the 2 years is around R6k.

Are there any logical reasons why anyone would need this over, say, the Note 2? Seems to be a spec increase for the most part. As a Note 2 user, I've never encountered a performance issue before.

Is there something that you guys do with your phone that requires the additional specs?

Apart from the guys who have to upgrade in any case, I'm sure for most people in this thread upgrading is not about their requirements. Its just nice to have the latest from Samsung/Android!

That said, performance increases are usually only apparent after you've already gotten used to the better/younger device. I guess that after a week with the Note 3 you will notice some slight annoyances with the Note 2. Shouldn't be major though. So save yourself some money by not trying out the Note 3!

I think most people that have the s2 might look at this as an upgrade option know that I'm over due will try get it next week if Mtn sells it then

Even upgrades I'm not quite getting. You can get an awesome phone at a much cheaper price and still be entirely happy.

It seems to me that we've reached a plateau of innovation so they're just cramming better specs in phones and selling them on the brand and Apple-esque marketing. I don't get it. But perhaps I don't use my phone the way others do, and they need the extra specs?
I mean I understand that eventually phones will merge into full blown computers and the specs will be necessary. I understand that from a manufacturing and development perspective these spec advances are necessary. What I don't quite grasp is the consumer mindset that we must have these things because they're necessary. I understand the marketing side of it and the psychology of wanting the latest and greatest. I just wonder if people ever critically analyse these buying decisions any longer? Do you need the extra performance, or do you just want it because you're told that you should want it? Is there an actual need in the market place for these spec phones, or have the manufacturers simply carved out that need for you and sold you on the marketing?

Some good questions/remarks there.

Which phone did you have before the Note 2? And why did you upgrade to the Note 2?

Dude, Apple-esque and increasing specs are polar opposites. Apple used to try and belittle better hardware makers by mocking their ever-increasing specs. It's only very recently that Apple has even made an effort to stay anywhere near modern smartphone standards. They still offer 513Mb RAM when the competition had 1 or 2 GB. They had no multitasking when even Symbian did it almost a decade before. They smugly tried to pretend that being able to do what you want with hardware you paid for is "unnecessary to the user experience" or what the **** ever. Even now, they offer tiny displays when the demand is for bigger ones.

The critical thinking part is true though. I wouldn't give a single **** if my work contract wasn't due for an upgrade. Certain people :Cough:Domin4tr1x :Cough: seem to just insanely buy everything like some crazed iTard for some reason.

Edit: This refers to DJ's post, not the one directly above

I was referring to apple-esque marketing specifically. It wasn't intended as a comparative of the types of phones...

My reason for going for the note is if I'm going to be stuck with a phone for two years I don't want buyers regret. Also I want a bigger screen and like some of the gimmick stuff like the camera features. I get what DJ is saying though. For me it's the bigger screen and good battery life plus update for software plus some of the gimmicks. The huge thing though that pushes it over the edge is the accident cover that they say they will replace the whole phone of something goes wrong. Had to fix my old s2.screen and wow was it expensive.

I have to agree. One thing to keep in mind is that you don't save that much by opting for a lower specced phone. And until quite recently, lower specifications (like 1GB vs 2GB ram) made quite a difference to the experience. Also, it is not yet clear what newer releases of Android will demand from hardware. It happened before that older phones were not capable of running newer versions of Android (mostly occurred with the update from 2.3.7 to 4.0).
