Galaxy Note 1 = Announced September 2011
Galaxy Note 2 = Announced August 2012
Galaxy Note 3 = Announced September 2013
Galaxy Note 4 = Announcement Aug/Sept 2014 - I hope you're right but I don't see anything they can do to improve on the Note 3 with current hardware availability.

I mean, are they going to give the Note 4 a Snapdragon 801 chipset? Maybe add another 1GB of Ram? Improve the Camera? It's useless.

They might just want to give the Note 4 the 64bit treatment with 4K Ultra HD Resolution and according to Samsung that will be in 2015.

So my bet is still on next year.

If you are correct, which I hope you are, the Note 4 will be to the Note 3 what the S5 is to the S4. Not that much of a improvement to ditch your current model.

If you have a Note 2 the Note 4 will be a VERY VERY good successor. Same with the S5, if you have a S3 then it will be awesome to get a S5.

I don't have any hopes for a Note 4 to replace my Note 3.

I personally don't think Samsung expect Note 3 users to dump their phones for a Note 4, much the same as S4 and S5. Most people are on two year upgrade cycles so the S5 and Note 4 will be aimed at the S3 and Note 2 users. Obviously with the hope of pulling across some users of other brands. I've got an S3. I was thinking Note 3. Waited for S5. And am now wondering whether to wait for the Note 4.

But as we are all aware, you could be waiting forever for the next big thing...

Most phone users worldwide take out 2 year contracts, so for every second cycle, the upgrade is quite substantial.

Most. But there are quite a large number of OCD sufferers who HAVE to buy every new model that comes out, same as with the iTards. I think that's why Samsung started doing this, they realised that even if they release phones with only minor upgrades but in smaller increments, some suckers would still buy a new one every time, usually cash. And that means lots of $$$$.

Exactly!

Added to that, not everyone upgrades their two year contracts at the same time. Some might be this year, some might be next year...

what happened with Dom1n8tr1x?

Taking a well deserved break from social media. :D

But seriously, I have been very busy at work the past couple of weeks with lots of changes. (all good thankfully)

I haven't flashed the latest Poland since it's only supposed to fix third party sview covers, and I don't own one.

She's back!! :D

Ok, cool. I think I'm going to go with the Note... I presume new contract deals come out next week - new month? Hopefully there will be some good options instead of repeats of current ones.

I just picked my Note 3 LTE up from PnP Hyper in Durban North. R399 / month. It's a good deal.

I was, but on prepaid - I was waiting for a good deal. I have an S4 that I got from CellC, but ported away because it was terrible for me in KZN.

I'm currently on Virgin... Been happy with them for the past 6 years but don't mind moving back to Vodacom again. Do you know if you can change the pick n pay deal to the uchoose smart s?

Not sure about that, but I am going to wait for one month to pass and then change it to a top up contract so that I can add better data bundles.

How does that work? Do you incur any extra costs?

No additional costs apparently, as long as your base contract is of a par value or higher.

This was mentioned somewhere in the forums.

My only reasoning is that I can't choose my bundle size with the Smart S and also can't add on any bundles - not keen on OOB Shark. With top-up, I can add bundles to my liking.

Here is the posting from "Hardware Bargains"

What you do is, take the Smart S package. Wait for the first debit order to come off. As soon as this happens, you do a parallel migration to a topup R200. You now get R200 airtime pm and a samsung note 3 for R399pm. Buy 1gig of data for R149, R51 calling time left for the month. 5.6" HD tablet with 4k video recording with 1gig of data on it for R400 a month. Winning at life! The device works out to about R4 776 over the 24 months. This device is normally R10 - R11k at most stores. Even if you wanted to make a quick buck, you could let it go for what...around R6 - R7k?
