I'm going to the UK in 10 days time. Lollipop has been out in the UK since January. If I do a search for updates over the air while i am there in the UK, while connected through a British SIM card in my Note 3....will it show an update being available for download ?

My Note 3 was bought through Vodacom in S.A

LOL
BT unbranded OFFICIAL SAMSUNG Note 3 lollipop rom from Sammobile is out, go get it!
That !
Help a mate out... Link to the rom?

Seen many on the firmware list, just not sure which is the correct one

Short answer. It isnt possible.

Each network or unbranded samsung device has a label attached to the firmware.

e.g Vodacom firmware ends in 3 letters XFV(the v = vodacom) . This code communicates with the Samsung server and will only supply you with Vodacom's version of lollipop.

You can get the latest firmware by downloading it on the sammobile website and manually flashing it to your device. The warranty still remains and wont have any issues with SamsungSA.

I dont know why you want Lollipop so bad cos it actually is laggy on the S4,makes your phone freeze and has stability issues in general. Kitkat is a more stable version.

Load a custom rom or ditch your Note 3 and get a phone that will be upgraded to Android Marshmallow.

N. B it is somewhat difficult to go back to kitkat after you flash the lollipop update.

So if I have a cellc handset with my Vodacom SIM, I'll have to download the update from cellc ?

What am I missing?

CELLC uses unbranded firmware i.e they dont modify the firmware like Vodacom and add their value added crap.Unbranded firmware is basically the offical software from samsung and lacks any applications or extras that cellphone networks add on.

When you walk into the Samsung store and buy a phone, it will come unbranded and wont have any network apps etc. Getting your phone from the Samsung store, MTN, Cellc or Telkom mobile = an unbranded device.

Unbranded devices have firmware ending in XFA
Vodacom = XFV

Inserting a Vodacom sim into a handset purchased from cellc will still download the XFA "unbranded" software. Those codes are linked to the software itself and the sim card doesnt influence the software process. A phone purchased from cellc will always connect to the Samsung server and look for software corresponding to XFA code.

Samsung releases software updates according to region. Unbranded South African Software = XFA.

So XFA is exactly like the the UK BT rom in terms of not having any bloatware or operator branding? (that being said the BT roms get released well before us so often it's the only viable option)

If you take a device in for warranty repair with a say a stock BT rom loaded on a Vodacom device won't they possibly refuse warranty?

My understanding is loading a foreign rom won't trip Knox but before you take a phone in for warranty you need to reload the stock regional rom?

As to lollipop, I would give that a miss, you are only going to get 5.0 and no further updates so things are never going to be as solid and bug free as 4.4.2, lollipop is nice but there's generally an app that will implement any feature you need better than lollipop can.

I'd like clarity on this as well. That was also my understanding.

It's been a while since I posted here. So I'll just leave this here...

What's it like?
Stable signal, any battery issues?
No freezing or rebooting?

Those roms come prerooted aswell?
The best rom I've ever used. Temasek is like a machine. There's an update to the Rom basically everyday with bug fixes, features and optimisations. You don't have to update tho, I flash updates weekly. The WHOLE rom is around 300mb.

No reboots since alpha versions which was around November last year I think. Signal is perfect, but I updated my modem and bootloader earlier this year. Temasek gets 7 hours screen on. I average 3.5hrs but I play a lot of Clash of Clans.

Comes prerooted. And as for missing S-Pen features, they can be had with 3rd party apps.

I concur with this. Very happy with Temasek. Have been using it since this time last year and haven't ever looked back.

Getting a new battery this week so I expect my screen on to be insane. Before my better started dying I was getting 5hrs screen on time.

Other than Temasek, any good roms anyone can recommend that's specific for Note 3?

What you mean specific? As in TouchWhiz? Omega and AryaMod are good. Only ever tried Omega tho
