Go for a Note 5. Cheaper, available, doesn't go BANG! Maybe doesn't have all the latest technology but still is a very good phone.

Phoning Vodacom tomorrow!

Need to fly before they ban the Note7 .. so need the NEW NEW one...

Might not help getting a replacement, some airlines are apparently now blanket banning ALL Samsung handsets from being switched on or used on flights.

Some US airlines prohibiting use of any Samsung phones in wake of Note 7 recall

Fallout from the Galaxy Note 7 recall is escalating, with some airlines disallowing any use of Samsung mobile devices in-flight, following reports of multiple incidences of property damage in the U.S.

Reports have circulated that the public relations problem for Samsung is extending past just the Galaxy Note 7. AppleInsider can confirm that some American Airlines and Delta flights are instructing all Samsung phone users to power down, and not use their devices in flight.

"Its hard to tell at a glance if a phone is a Note 7 or not," we were told when we asked about the in-flight safety briefing. "But we can tell if something's a Samsung from the aisle."

Ha, as I said in this thread and others, SS have been ignoring the problem for much longer than the release of the Note 7.

And its NOT just about a particular battery supplier, it s about the entire power management system in the phones. Some battery types just make the problem worse than others ....

After 35 reported incidents of overheating smartphones worldwide, Samsung made the unprecedented decision to recall every single one of the Galaxy Note 7 smartphones sold. That's said to be 1 million of the 2.5 million that were manufactured. (Since the recall was first announced, the number of explosive Note 7s has at least doubled, according to one estimate.) The company says it's stopped all sales and shipments of the Note 7 and is working with government agencies and cellular carriers around the world to provide refunds and exchanges for the phone.

....

In the United States, Samsung isn't moving forward with fixes or exchanges until the CPSC approves. You can't exchange your Galaxy Note 7 for a new one, even though Samsung tells CNET the replacement phones are ready for you. Even the Note 7's battery-slashing firmware update won't appear in the US without CPSC approval, according to the company.

No he didn't but when Samsung called me they said they are supplying people who already had the note 7 first. It should be back in shops from next week onwards.

It seems like Samsung sorted things out quite quickly, but I fear a lot of people has lost their trust in Samsung products. It's going to take quite some time for them to recover from this mishap.

They say the best time to buy a product from a supplier is after they had a major mishap and have been in the spotlight for the wrong reasons.

I can promise you the tension at Samsung currently must be almost visible to get this right.
