Samsung Galaxy S

One more question to all the Galaxy S owners..
!! PERFORMANCE !!

1)I don't want to compare to the iphone now but how good is the Hummingbird processor on this phone?? Is opening and closing of apps delayed allot, minimal or instant? How fast is the switch between screens smooth, delayed, stuttery? Any random freezing of applications?

2)Video playback? Any problems?

3)HSDPA, Wifi and bluetooth connection.. Any issues picked up? Is Wifi and bluetooth stable?

4) Games performance, if you have any installed! Is it smooth?

Please answer if you don't mind! The more real world info the better! :D

Performance depends on firmware. 2.2 will be released officially in a few weeks but I have tested an alpha version so my thoughts for both stock 2.1 and alpha 2.2 below. Don't forget the final 2.2 will be much better than the alpha still

Stock 2.1
1) Depends which apps. Integrated system apps like gmail are instant as they run in the background. Sometimes a tiny lag. 3rd party apps instead start up but need to load. Once running in background (switching between apps) they are instant.
2) Perfect, even 720p
3) Wifi and bluetooth are stable, am on Virgin sp don't know about hdpa
4) Very smooth!

2.2 Alpha
1) Huge performance increase, no lag at all. Instant app switching but of course apps which don't run need to load
2 - 4) As above

Similar performance but Iphone sucks, too expensive, most apps are paid and no drag and drop. Let's not forget the itunes dependence, dropped calls, no support for micro sd and the micro sim cards (which will be a problem if you're on cellc or once you try putting another sim in there while on holiday) and the smaller screen (4" is awesome and the phone itself is only marginally bigger than iphone 4). The higher resolution of the iPhone 4 is pointless, I have compared them. Super Amoled makes a big difference though in sunlight (perfectly readable) and colours are much better too.

Youtube should answer most of that question and there is loads of reviews on the internetz! Seems like Iphone would still be a little faster in certain area's.. But seems like Android is getting the advantage in graphics performance with the latest updates.. Thats what we like to see.. :D

Thats what i was looking for, switching after the app has been loaded.. That should be understandable. Its like any application even on windows.. Loading does take time then switching should be quick. As long as its not delayed as well.. Would also understand that if the app pulls info from internet that it would be delayed a bit, nothing we can do about that.. :D

EDIT: Nice points there on the iphone Tim182!!

Looks like there is sufficient roumers going round that motorola will be releasing a GSM version of the Droid 2 soon.. But then there will be some more waiting.. Would love to have a phone with a keyboard.. Current milestone is a bit out dated already.. :p

From the 2.2 alpha on the SGS I can say that the upgrade will make a big difference in stability and speed. The only reason I went back because the Wifi SP was not yet working...

Aaahh good to know.. Hope the 2.2 update is released within the next month.. I can upgrade on the 27th of Sep. (no way to push it up a month? hehe) Now i have a month left to make up my mind.. :D

EDIT: How good is the camera in low light conditions without a flash?

2.2 Should be released by then. Camera is amazing in light but useless at night (for me at least). Some people have said it is ok and I have also seen some very decent photos from other users in low light condition but somehow I can't manage to take anything decent. Maybe it's my model or I am just to stupid to set it up correctly. Do a google search, there are plenty of samples online.
 
Hi Folks, I have a Galaxy S and have had the problem when connecting to Samsung Kies on my Win 7 32 bit machine, that the phone displays MTP Application screen, then the home screen and cycles between the two. I have tried everything recommended in the various forums, including unmounting and formatting both internal and external SD cards. Then I read the following post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7498414&postcount=37 which says the bug has been found and it is file names with more than 16 characters after the last dot (.). I switched my USB to mass storage and mounted it, backed up the internal SD card, then manually searched for such files. In my case I found one in a directory from Skyfire browser, and two more in the thumbs directory under DCIM, (for cooliris). When I deleted these files the problem was gone.

Updating KIES to the newest version should also work...

Hi Guy's , I have also ordered mine , Expecting delivery tomorrow.

One question though , Did anyone bother to ask wich version we are getting , Because the lady i spoke to said it will be the 8Gig version , which includes a 8Gig SD Card , Se said that they dont have the one with 16gig onboard memory ..

We actually argued about it for over 15 min ,so i had her go to the GSMArena site to prove to her that there is indeed a 16gig version .
Also on the samsung website it shows 2 variants called GT-I9000 and GT-I9000/M8

She say's it also states on the box that it is 16gig , but thats because it includes the 8gig card .

So i am now officially confuzzed .

I am not sure that the 16Gb has been released yet. And as far as i know, the 16Gb has 16Gb onboard and support for more with an SD Card. where are you ordering it from?
