It always makes it through the day for me, I put it on charge when I go to bed. By then the power is anywhere from 20 to 70% depending on how heavily I used it.

Okay, screen sounds promising then! :) Battery not that much.. One day wonders are a pain in the neck! But some tweaks could fix it..
Please also answer the following questions:
1) Do you still have the stock 2.1 android rom on the phone?
2) Is the on screen keyboard similar to the iphone's? How is the on screen typing?
3) How is the speaker? Any problems hearing the person on the other side?

Always nice to get some real world info on these phones..
Would be much appreciated! :)

I doubt most stores would have it available yet... I got mine through the Vodacom Upgrade line yesterday and even then they had to check the warehouse stock to confirm that it was indeed there. It wasn't listed as available for upgrade on contracts yet. Might've changed this morning though, but somehow I doubt it.

MTN will get it the first week of September.

On anytime 100 = R109 with a pay in or R259.
On anytime 200 = R209 with a pay in or R319.

Trust me the screen is awesome, both in image quality and touch :)
If you can't charge it every night then maybe keep the charger with you, keep it in the car or your briefcase or something. Or buy a car charger. Then you don't have to worry about running out of power and can leave all the features that you want on.

2.1, but not stock. Using a leaked firmware meant for the Asian phones at the moment, because it's the latest. Also installed a 'lagfix' which speeds up file operations, I wouldn't be surprised if Samsung includes that in an official firmware because it gives the phone really high benchmark scores...
Nothing wrong with leaving it stock though.

Similar I think. The phone comes with a Samsung keyboard, which is good but nothing special. Then there is Swype, Google it if you don't know.
You can also install Vlingo from Samsung Apps which has its own keyboard, it has a voice input button and I like the layout of the number/punctuation section better although it seems to stop working randomly.

Typing is easy especially since the screen is big. QWERTY works in both landscape and portrait.

3) How is the speaker? Any problems hearing the person on the other side?

The speaker is good, max volume seems about the same as my old Nokia 5800. The loudspeaker on the other hand doesn't seem as loud as my Nokia, maybe because it only has one on the back as opposed to two on the side of the 5800. Loud enough I guess.
 
I phoned an Mtn shop in Pretoria. The lady told me that they will be receiving their stock in the middle of next month and that it will be R259 pm

Yea thats sounds correct although the Anytime 200 contract has more value as you get R100 more airtime for R60
 
That is exactly what I'm going to get. I'm so happy to get out of my virgin contract.
 
well i think mtn should work on educating there staff a little better :)

but atleast its not so far now ! i've been eligible for upgrade since the 5th :P and you know how us nerds get ;)

Got a text message to say my order has been invoiced and I can expect delivery shortly...I can't wait!:D

I think I'm going to look around for a pouch in the meantime:)

1. Had 2.1, then 2.2, now back to 2.1 stock
2. on screen keyboard is excellent. There are several options (different keyboards and layouts), choose whichever suits you best
3. Speaker is excellent, very loud and speaker on the back is even better. Better than all Nokia I owned. When the alarm goes off in the morning I sit up straight out of shock. Of course this always depends on your ringtone. Stock sms tones are soft for example
