Rooting won't help you to debrand, it will simply give you "superuser" permissions. To remove branding you need to flash a generic firmware.

Rooting is a simple proceedure, put a file on the SD card and apply... I guess you can change the start up screen then as well but you're still stuck with the vodacom firmware...

I know, and that was the plan... But I'll go for rooting first before new ROM flashing.
 
Just got my phone like an hour ago! :) Busy charging it while i sort out my contacts and stuff from my old phone.

How long did you all charge your phone for before first use?

I charged until it said "Remove from charger". Took in the region of 2.5 hours... The battery was about 75% charged when I got mine last week. The battery also lasted surprisingly long for a first charge... I finished charging around 17:00 in Friday and with EXCESSIVE use over Friday evening and Saturday I only had to get it back on the charger around 21:00 on Saturday evening. It even had about 15-20% charge left still...

Well it's a one click solution, you can still be technically involved after you've rooted the device. You just need to know what you are doing most of the time.

Semi true, Samsung releases its new firmwares through KIES. The most recent one is JM1 for some JM3 for others. There are developer builds as well, even of Froyo but they are in an Alpha stage. I've used them, not too bad actually but back to JM1 now
 
So i got MMS working.
I can only send though.
Anyone able to test MMS using Handcent. I do not have the default messenger app installed.
 
Got the CellC price list from NM and they don't have it on there. Asked them if they are going to get it, no reply yet. And now they say I can only port on the 4th of Oct. :(

We expect the Samsung Galaxy S I9000 to be avaialble with Cell C second week of September.

Can anyone comfirm MMS is working on their phone?
I flashed back to the default firmware and done the MMS settings and non of my messages will send now. And MMS's i have been sent just say downloading :-/
