Samsung Galaxy S

I went to fourways mall today, they were showing the latest samsung phones and i was hopping to see the Galaxy S.
I was told that the phone is here but Samsung usually bring out 1 new phone at the time, they said the galaxy S will probably be available in 2 month time.

Good to know thanks! I'm over waiting, ordered mine today from Europe, should take 1 week and will cost less than 5k inc shipping and VAT :-)

@Tim182: Please tell which European site you ordered from, and let us know if it arrives promptly and safely. Also if you end up paying duty.

Yeah I think I am gonna go the same route, you know us gadget guys cannot wait and have the patience of a bull terrier with a central labotomy.
Please advise where you ordered from and likewise if you pay duties, your experiance and likings.
Thanks

I am ordering from a German site (www.jacob-computer.de) but since you need to contact the people for international orders and the site is completely in German you need to be able to speak the language. The price there is 384EURO excl VAT + 2.5% Paypal, 31EURO shipping and 15.4% SA VAT, bringing it to R4600 at the current exchange rate.

Alternatively, you could use this English site (www.handtec.co.uk), I personalyl haven't used it but I have read some positive reviews from South African customers. Their price is 350 Pounds excl. Vat, +35 Pounds shipping and 15.4% SA VAT, bringing it to R5100 total at the current exchange rate.

I'll post my experiences when I get the device. Let me know if you have any questions regarding ordering from overseas, I have some experience.

Cellphones are not subject to import duties in SA. Only 14% VAT on 110% of value, so 15.4%.

Ordered paid and hopefully on the plane tomorrow. Can't wait to get the phone :-) :-) :-) :-)

Just received notification from expansys that mine is also on its way - should be here tomorrow or thursday!

Did any of you order cases/pouches for it?

No didnt order any pouches for it - altho I may still do that. I also ummed and errrred between the Galaxy S and the Desire - finally the screen of the Galaxy S swung me over! Cant wait to get it - my Nokia N97 is just way too quirky at the moment!

Took the Galaxy over the Desire as it seems to lean more on the Multimedia side of things. I ordered the Krusell Luna pouch, hope the phone fits in it :p

The price at Expansys seems a bit... insane! R7600, while importing it from a site suggested by Tim182 above it sells for R4600 or R5100.

My dad is in India for the week. Apparently the phone has launched there but I can't find an online store that sells it. Anyone know where he could buy it there?

I also wonder when it will officially launch here and at what price. Still no official news on that?

Best bet would be for him to go into a store and buy it for you... You'll only have trouble ordering from india to india from here. Your PayPal or bank account will come up as South African and the online store might think there's something dodgly going on as it's a local order placed from overseas.

Seems that it won't be launched here for another 2 months at least. Price estimates currently are around R7500-R8000. In Europe it sells for roughly the same price as X10 or Desire so it will be the same price here as well. Both have been realeased here and sell for that price if I am not mistaken so Galaxy S will definately not be under 7k, at least not from most outlets.

Expansys is too expensive but so far the cheapest locally. You might as well import it yourself though, Expansys doesn't carry warrenty either so no advantage there... Use somthing like handtec.co.uk and you'll have it in 1 week for +-5000

I woulda ordered from handtec if i knew about them at the time - expansys was the best price I could find locally - other sites had it for in excess of R10 000!! Next time Ill know where to go - altho I do worry about items going missing when I import - happened to me once before, luckily I got a full refund!

Even 7600 isn't that bad. When ordering overseas always make sure you select a decent courier. It's more expensive but well worth it. I decided to go with someone who offered DHL Express which is R800 in shipping alone, still I'm getting the phone for 5k and its door to door delivery and insured.

Reason i didn't import it is purely for peace of mind. With Expansys if there is a bugger up they sort it out, if i import it and something goes wrong i have to go out of my way to sort it out. I don't expect it too be much cheaper when its released here. Good ole' Vodacom and MTN will make sure you sign an arm and a leg for it without a contract, which mine is only due next year :-/.

Huh, that's a good one... I was given an excuse of ICASA sending back goods; and I'm still in possession of a second hand product they "lent" to me. Hopefully they have been better these days now because they are still my very last resort amongst the likes of Wantitall.

You should have asked for a refund :-)
I have had orders go wrong with them, only thing i lost was a week of waiting.
