Samsung Galaxy S

Mine is currently in the couriers hands... waiting at the Airport in Cape Town - it's been trip sheeted.. the waiting begins!

Hey guys, just picked up on this thread and was about to order the SonyEricsson X10. Any news on when the Galaxy will be available in SA? I think I must rather wait for it than grab the X10 now. What are your opinions on the X10 compared to the Galaxy?

X10 is nice but not for its price. No multitouch and only Android 1.6 so its missing many features and the screen has limited colour support. Sony has said that the X10 will be ugraded to 2.1 or 2.2 later this year but I doubt that you will find them releasing any further updates after that. The Galaxy S will most probably be supported for a long time.

Further timescape and mediascape don't run smoothly and the display can't keep up with the Galaxy S or even the Desire. My advice wait for the Galaxy S, if you can't wait import it, otherwise buy the Desire... Galaxy S won't be officially released in SA for at least 2 months.

I think if the X10 got its uprade to Android 2.1 or 2.2 it would be awesome. The screen is better than the Desire due to its larger size. And from what i hear Timescape and Mediascape is also slow because of Android 1.6.
But i am hoping the Galaxy S is better than them all :p.

Screen is only better in size. Desire and X10 both have the same resolution but Desire packs an AMOLED screen whereas the X10 uses a normal LCD TFT. So brightness colours and contrast are way superior on the Desire (and best on the Galaxy S). And the size isn't that much of a difference 4" vs 3.7". Even the 2.2 upgrade won't bring multitouch to the X10 unfortunately.

Thought multitouch was a software limitation not hardware.
Plus i thought the X10 had an AMOLED screen :p.

No, before X10 came out everyone thought it was going to be AMOLED, turns out its just an old LCD, just like my 6300 has...
Just after the X10 came out some guy from Sony announced that there was no multitouch because of a software limitation but he didn't consult the tech department. A few days later it turned out that he was wrong, there's no multitouch because of a hardware limitation in the X10, 1.6 well supports its but the X10 doesn't. Pretty idiotic if you ask me, such an expensive phone and they forget to put in multitouch.

guys. Its here. Im busy unpacking it as we type. Those nice folks at expansys also included a bluetooth headset and a adapter plug for free. Bluetooth headset looks a little old..but hey.. Its the thought that counts! Now. Let me get this thing up and running. More to follow!

Another thing to consider is that the Galaxy S comes with 8/16GB build in memory and supports microSD up to 32GB. The X10 and Desire only have 1Gb (I think even less in Desire) build in and only support up to 16 Gb memory cards. Camera on X10 is amazing though and beats the other two

holy crap. This screen is amazing! Bright and totally jaw dropping. Now the learning curve begins. This is my 1st android phone and im coming from my nokia n97.

Its also very fast! Not played much yet... Luckily im on leave so i have all day! The battery came with about 75% charge. Will see how it lasts!

Also the X10 doesnt have a flash player and no divx support. Maybe I should just wait a bit :) PaulZA, lucky man! Please comment on the camera speed and quality if you can.

Actually, they both support up to 32GB. The built in memory is significantly less though.
