Samsung Galaxy S

Just spent the whole evening yesterday cleaning up my contacts and linking their Gmail and facebook profiles.
Now my contacts look all shiny :D.
Rooted yesterday also and added the Market Enabler. I can only search for paid apps though, can't browse them. Bought Switch Pro ($1.00) which is an awesome app.

Here are my 2 homescreens so far. Will add more as i get more junk on my phone :p

lol @mxit! have you installed the voice app over samsung apps yet? It lets you dictate sms and email messages and control the whole phone with voice after a single touch, works AMAZINGLY in the car, even with background noise. I managed to spell out long sms while driving within seconds and without error. The gps is great too, finds signal within seconds. Perfect gps solution with copilot. Even managed to install speed cameras!

I still need to get a decent GPS app. Google Maps does not do it for me :p.
The voice thing is cool, but i rarely have to send an sms when driving, it can wait.

ps. nothing wrong with mxit :p except that the app sucks so bad.

Copilot seems pretty cool, it has very good South African maps and you can add tomtoms POI (including speed traps). Expensive though, if you buy it... Hopefully garmin will release a version later this year. Other android gps don't seem to have SA maps.

Which method did you use to root? adb or odin? If you used adb, did you loose your data or do you know what happens? I know you loose data and programs with odin

Very recent: I9000XWJG5 it is european despite XW. Flashed from XXJ3. However, it seems that I am unable to restore user settings + contacts etc using titanium backup. Ah well, apps are restored. Firmware seems a lot faster, will report later about battery

Rooting both scares and intrigues me - I wanna do it, but have no clue..lol - also have any of you tried using Samsung Kies??

XXF3 is old, its the original stock version (about 1 months old) which has a few problems: Swype, lag + battery consumption. If they don't bother you wait for 2.2 in August/September

With regards to KIES, its worth it simply because of its outlook sync capabilities.

With regards to root:

here is some info:

And here is how you do it the easy way, worked 6 times out of 6 for me. Do it at your own risk, plus you won't loose data.

Steps:
1. Download: update.zip (got it from samdroid.net or here http://www.multiupload.com/JHIFK9K80P)
2. Put update.zip to root of /sdcard (not /sdcard/sd) (not on the physical SD card but the Internal SD card/Phone Memory)
3. Turn off phone
4. Hold down volume up + home button + power
5. Phone will reboot into recovery mode
6. Wait until you see the Recovery Screen and then release the buttons
7. With the volume down key go to the option: "apply: /sdcard/update.zip"
8. Press the home button
9. Phone will start updating
10. Phone reboots... and there you go! your phone is rooted!

See my guide above. It scared me too but it is very easy once you do it. Just don't panic haha

UPS tracking says:
Your package is on time with a scheduled delivery date of 28/07/2010.
And the last update on my package progress:
PACKAGE DATA PROCESSED BY BROKERAGE. WAITING FOR CLEARANCE / RELEASED BY CLEARING AGENCY. NOW IN-TRANSIT FOR DELIVERY
Are they driving it all over the country before they come here?

UPS tracking can't make up its mind on when it will arrive. First is says the 28th, then 23rd, then 26 and now 28th again. If it's already in the country what's the hold up? Wondering if it's worth calling them (no email, typical SA business) or if I'm wasting my time trying to deal with it.

Yea I'm that desperate to replace my Nokia 5800 :p

Gave them a call. The guy said I'll probably get it tomorrow, otherwise it will come on Monday. I'm hoping for tomorrow :D

Told you ;-). Can you do me a favour and let me know how much you paid in customs? I feel like I was overcharged but had no choice but to accept it, paid R900 in customs and VAT.

Haha no I actually had another name but switched to this one so guess I'm back to post number 1 :D
