I am due for an upgrade soon and the slowness of my Blackberry is killing me.

I have never had an Iphone and also never had an Android device.

My question is which phone should I go for Samsung Galaxy S2 or Iphone 4?

Each device has it's pro's and con's.

I suggest you play around with each device and see what suits your needs/wants and get a feel for the different OS's.

I have never had an iPhone so I have no grounds on which to comment on it. I am however a proud owner of the S2 and can say that you certainly cannot go wrong by getting yourself one. As fxit_man has said maybe try and get hold of one to play around with a little.

Got an ipad an android phone so i'll just comment based on the apps. Android seems much better based on the availablity.

I don't think anyone could favour android when it comes to apps?

I'll second that... I'll also second fxit_man's suggestion to get your hands on both before making a discussion. This thread will inevitably turn into an OS war and I don't think you should make the call based on which side shouts louder... It's going to be YOUR phone after all.

Agreed. Let's keep the subjectivity out of it for now to refrain from fanboy wars :D please! Not another fanboy war thread. :p

Getting an iPhone 4 will leave a bitter taste in your mouth, as you'll be paying double for something that does less than a Samsung Galaxy S2 & a much smaller screen. People call it "Apple Tax", as you must pay extra for the privilege of owning an Apple product.

1. The screen on the iPhone 4 is made by LG and it's nowhere near the quality of the Galaxy S2.
2. You will be forced to install an extremely frustrating piece of software, called iTunes and Quicktime, on your pc and anything and everything you want to copy from your pc to your phone, will have to go through iTunes. You will also then discover a crappy app called Bonjour, that installs without your knowledge and constantly runs in the background.
3. With Android you just plug your phone into your pc via USB and your pc will display the Galaxy S2's internal 16GB and external SD card storage underneath the phone icon in Windows Explorer. Simply drag and drop the music, documents, video and whatever you want to copy. You don't have to worry about copying it to a specific place, as the media scanner will immediately pick the files up and add it to your music, docs, video, etc folders.
4. When your phone is faulty or needs something replaced, you'll have to deal with Core. Good luck and my sympathy in advance.
5. Be prepared to keep your credit card handy for any useful downloads from the Apple App Store.

Been there and never going back.

*Lovingly caresses my Samsung Galaxy S2 and switch on the screen for those eye-popping colors.

I used to use an iphone {3g} but have now moved to android {Galaxy s2}, while both platforms as have been said have their up's and downs I think it boils down to preference and money. The iphone 4s {to import} is about twice the price of the galaxy s2 for roughly the same or slightly inferior/superior specs. Apple are great in that you recieve updates for OS's, on android it can always be a bit of a concern wether your phone will get the next version of android but that said the current IOS 5 devices are experiencing some major battery problems.

Android is nice for me because you can play around, I have been looking at custom roms exct. but this won't appeal to most people so as others have said see if you can get both in your hands before making a decision, I love my galaxy s2 but sometimes I still miss my iphone...

If you are asking about the regular iphone 4 {not the s} I would say get the galaxy s2

Oh, and I have forgot to add.....if you get an iPhone/iPad, be prepared for a lot of 600MB - 900MB updates.

When you open iTunes, it will constantly nag you to update to the latest version of your phone software. Fortunately you can switch the pop-ups off.

So I hope you're on uncapped ADSL or have a 10GB 8ta deal going, otherwise you'll cry within the first day of owning an iPhone.

Not quite anymore.

OTA Delta updates - the latest 5.0.1 update was 44MB downloaded straight from the phone.

Only the upgrade to ios5 will be 700mb the rest can be done over the air, I did my update to 5.0.1 the other day which was 40mb. The killer for both apple and Samsung will be the applications, you can munch a lot of GB downloading apps!

It's a tough call though, both are great products!

Availability.... Such a mission to download I apps imho....

And you cannot use iTunes to download music in South Africa.

I know there are workarounds for creating an American iTunes account, but you're basically committing fraud.

You can use the Kenyan iTunes store with your SA credit card if you wish to purchase apps that are not available on the SA iTunes Store due to restrictions by the Film and Publications board. Hardly that much of a mission imo.

If it's a normal iPhone 4 (no s) there really wouldn't be any comparison between it and the SII.

If it's the 4S, read up on what was said in this thread.

I have both a 4s and an android phone, and while apple has more apps, and definitely more/better games, more isn't always better. Some of the apps are more polished on apple, but most of the popular apps exist on both, and I've not found anything an apple app can do that I couldn't get on android. BUT.. there are a LOT of apps on android that do things that apple can not do(unless you jailbreak - but even then its still not as open as andriod).

On andriod, you have full access to your file system, so you can just browse all your folders like you do on pc, you can browse your lan over wifi, and copy to and from shared folders.. Apps have the ability to access the file system, as well as other apps, so if you take a picture in one app, you can open it in another to edit, then share it via tons of online services. With IOS5 they've added the share via twitter thing, but in general on android its a lot easier to work with media.

I think the Iphone's camera takes better pics in general, and the 4s has excellent video capabilities. Overall, I think if you're into geeky tinkering, and making your phone do uber cool things - go android.. if you just want a smartphone that does regular smartphone things, then both phones will suit you just fine.. they're both really good.
