I honestly do not understand this "setting in" or "running in" the kernels. As far as I can see, the results are immediate. It would be interesting to see if you have any improvement over a couple of days. But then the settings must remain the same.
 
I too don't really know how, or if, it works. I've read numerous different opinions on it. Will just have to see if it improves tomorrow.

One thing that I did notice is that sometimes after a reboot the battery suddenly appears to have lost a lot of chareg (5%+). Why is that?

Your phone is probably hard bricked. It sounds like the eMMC brick bug problem that was experienced by Note users, given that you say you restored a nandroid backup in CWM. But only one S2 kernel caused that, and it wouldn't be the one you used... So very odd indeed.

Does the jig get you into download mode?

This is a normal. It's to do with the SII's fuel chip.
 
Hi all

I flashed Cyanogenmod 9 rc1, coming from AOKP 1.8. I just feel as though it is more stable, and I like every aspect of using my phone. Except for one thing:

My phone loses network connection (ie to Vodacom) every now and again, for a short while. If I reboot my phone, the problem goes away immediately, instead of having to wait for 5 minutes or so. (Cyanogen boots fast! Wow).

Do you guys think I should flash another modem, and which one do you think is best, if so?

This has been discussed and solved a few pages
back. Or Google it. It has to do with the SMSC.

Also ensure you don't limit your network to only 2G or 3G if it isn't available in your area.

nope, no download mode... finally gave up and got irratated :) and as 3rd blue said above, probably that damn emmc brick bug caused this... thing is, I had Siyah kernal 3.3.2 before I flashed the leaked 4.0.4, and "I think ;) " i didnt flash back the kernal when on 4.0.4 and thats what bricked it... Noobish mistake, but yeh, I learnt it the hard way...

Anyways, just took it to a MTN Repair Centre and they told me I get it back on Monday - will be a new SGS2 if they can't repair it, so hoping for that, as I didnt have much data on it when it got bricked so not to concerned that ways... Heres hoping, hehe.

2. Yes. Not annoying at all. Not even noticeable, in fact, because it's "fixed". As I understand it from the XDA thread, the dev's had the choice to make between a working orientation sensor (thus, compass) and a working light-meter (for auto-brightness). They chose the former. So you don't notice the orientation sensor, but need to either use a fixed screen brightness, or download an app like Lux auto-brightness, which I'm using.
 
Regarding the leaked version. On XDA there's a whole thread on how its bricking peoples phones. So definitely recommended to stay clear.

well, reading more on the xda forums... I hope I get it back tomorrow, i dont want the cakes to say "eish, this phone we cant fix, we send to Samsung" as this was the MTN Repair Centre...

told them> I normally switch my phone off when I go to sleep, then switch it back on when I wake up... but this time, the SGS2, she not wake up" ;) hehe

NB: from the XDA forums:

To all of i9100 users having flashed the leaked 4.0.4 firmware LQ5 with the LQ5 kernel, PLEASE BE AWARE that using cwm to erase data/factory reset OR to restore a nandroid backup MAY BRICK YOUR PHONE !!!! Trust me, I just got mine bricked and by searching a litlle bit I discovered I'm not the only one -> see here and here ... and the number is growing ...

Here's how to BRICK your phone :
-Flash the LQ5 firmware with/without its pit file
-Use any LQ5 based kernel (ex cf-root)
-Go to cwm and do a wipe data & wipe cache and/or perform a nandroid restore of any previous firmware (ex LPG)
=> The process begins normally but it may/will switch off at any time without waking up ever again !!!!!

Symptoms of LQ5 brick :
-Phone dead
-No power up
-No boot
-No download mode (odin mode)
-No charging (usb/ac)
-Not detectable by pc / jtag
-Usb jig & jtag useless
-With battery(charged) inserted, phone(off) gets hot near the camera lens
-JUST A PIECE OF PLASTIC !!!!
-You feel really stupid about trying all this new stuff

And now here's how to avoid LQ5 brick :
-DO NOT flash LQ5 firmware
-If on LQ5 firmware, keep away from LQ5 kernel (ex: use siyah kernel)
-Use "eMMC Brickbug Check" app to verify whether you have the bug or not
-Backup your apps (titanium backup) and backup all (cwm) and copy all data from internal sdcard
-DO NOT wipe any partition or data
-Flash any official stock firmware in download mode via odin (do not use mobile odin)
-Do not get tempted again by any leaked firmware !!!

While waiting for someone to find a way to revive such bricked phones, I hope you guys take care of your precious S2, you only know its value when it's gone

@OGroteKoning - I see you posted under the N.E.A.K thread. How do you compare battery and performance of N.E.A.K to Siyah? Do you think 2.0.7 is going to be a great improvement?

I don't use NEAK. I just lurk there. I don't really like his kernel because it was always buggy for me. I think 2.0.7 will be an improvement. It_ler tests almost all the kernels, so you can see what his results are bearing in mind that he is a light to medium user.
