Samsung Galaxy S3

A little off topic, but I got to play with the new Samsung note 10.1 yesterday and man what a disappointment. Horrid build quality, squeaks and creaks all over and feels very plasticy. Poor quality screen and as for the OS it was horribly choppy and slow.
 
Hoping to get the S3 tomorrow, reading the entire thread. Almost halfway :/

Cant wait.
 
Lol :) I have my S3 here on my bedside table, still sealed. I am a bit scared to open it because I think its very different than my iPhone. I don't understand all these updates and from poland and all these things. Very confusing. With apple I can just update. So will see, will probably open the box sometime soon when really bored lol!

lol! Don't read to much into what goes on in this thread. Most of the guys here root and install custom roms. Really not necessary at all. I for one am still on the stock standard rom and loving the phone. It will blow your socks off compared to your iPhone trust me!!! Just do it! You won't be sorry. I was a iPhone freak for years until I got my S3, haven't looked back. :)
 
what is the latest stock for the S3 on vodacom network? want to revert my moms phone back to stock. Which one should I download from sammobile.com?

I did the same thing 2 weeks ago Nicci - always used iPhone from the first version that never made it to SA up to my iPhone 4. With my contract ending, I didn't see much of an improvement in the iPhone 5 over my current iPhone 4. So I decided to give the S3 a try.

It is very different. There is a lot to like about it, but if you come from an Apple eco system where you have a Mac and iPad etc, you will find it frustrating getting all your content sync'd. It is far more slick if you change a calendar event on iPad, and before you know it, the changes appear on all your devices. Buy a song on your Mac and it appears on the other devices etc etc

However, the display on the S3 is gorgeous, I think the S3 is the perfect size. The iPhone screen looks too small now. And there are lots of features that you will love playing with and trying out on the S3.

I still haven't made the switch to using the S3 as my main phone - I'm still using the iPhone, and playing with the S3 while getting to know it. My S3 supplied 2 weeks ago didn't come with Jelly Bean. I loaded KIES software on my computer, connected the S3, and it installed the update for me (4.1.1). What you are hearing about (4.1.2) I will not bother trying to load - I will probably stuff up my phone :) I will wait until Kies can do the change for me.

So, pro's and con's. I might never make my S3 my preferred phone, I don't know.....but it sure is fun playing with it, and using it as a mini tablet/GPS with it's large screen,

Hi guys, I am in the process of reading through this entire thread, but I would like to get the latest official release (assuming JB is available) on the phone asap.

Where can I download it? Would I need to root before upgrading to JB or is there already a root exploit for JB?

I would like to run stock to begin with, with the option to root later.

You can download it via Kies. Thats the safest way to do it.

OTA (over the air) update, or download the latest version of Samsung Kies so long and install it on your pc.

I bit the bullet and wiped, yes.

I copied all my photos to this pc, which it turns out wasn't necessary as the internal storage wasn't completely wiped.
Rooted, installed CWM and did a Nandroid. Installed Titanium backup and backed up the user apps.

Installing Omega was painless, all I had to do was a factory reset and then install the zip.

Phone running like a dream again :D

PS. Using the hacked multi window to run Play Store and Titanium together makes restoring apps a breeze.

You must have a different 10.1 from mine, then. My 10.1 is just as fast as my S3.
