Samsung Galaxy S3

Okay. I give up with regards to the slow Charging and even battery drain while plugged into the charger.

I have tried 4 different chargers now and 3 different USB cables. All of them which work 100% on my wife's S2.

Here is a screenshot of the last 5 days battery history.

Phone is left on charge over night and at times I have even switched it off completely to charge. Still charges as slowly or not at all.

If you have any advice. Please help.

Which ROM are you running?

I know that with some ROM updates the input voltage changes from the standard 4.35 to 4.2 (or even lower).

If you don't have Stweaks installed and if your ROM supports it, install it. Then tab over to the "power" tab, page down to the "battery charging voltage" section and change the "charge hard voltage" to 4.35.

Other than that I don't know what else to suggest.

I am on CM10.1 Nightly Builds. (Just tried Stweaks and see it is not supported)

But the problem started even before that when I was on the stock firmware.
 
Posted this in XDA now.... Hoping to get answers or advice.

To the Devs...

Is it at all possible that the ROM might limit charging current?

Been reading up on my charging problems for a day now.

I flashed a stock ROM again and charging was fine. Reflashed CM and charging slow again.

I then downloaded an app called Galaxy Charging Current which displays the mAh current. When I plug in the chargers it starts out on 700mAh or 1000mAh (depending on the charger used).... It then gradually declines to 100mAh every time. Sometimes it takes a few minutes, sometimes it happens within seconds.

Anybody else experience this or care to check it out please?

Anyone have the Official Samsung Flip Cover? I am looking to change covers but have heard the flip covers tend to fall apart in a week? it looks so nice though :|

I have the official cover. Got it with my phone as part of a R7.6k Cellucity promo bundle three weeks after launch. I used it for one day. Makes the phone thicker, tends to not lie flat and is insanely annoying when using the phone.

I had one on my S3, very poor build quality. They definitely don't look like new very long. I'll stick with something like a Case-Mate Barely There cover and a screen protector.

I currently have a plain black rubberized case mate and whilst it is does a great job of protecting my S3 I feel that it spoils the phones elegant looks.

The S3 flip cover is out then, will look for something else. Thanks again.

I have seen those, and when it is closed, you cannot see the notification LED.

Nadimm I think you are correct. I'm sure I read about changing the charging amperage (amps) for ac and usb.

I am having exactly the same issues, My S3 charging is poked. some days it doesnt charge at all, other days it says charging while plugged in and shows it to be charging but it just drains. I have not rooted my phone or anything, its stock standard. Had it about 8 months now.

I'm sending it in this weekend to Vodacom, as I have seen a few people having this issue.

Mine is still looking good after a few months of use. Then again, I don't abuse it much ... mainly use it to protect the screen from scratches while the phone is in my pocket.
