I have flashed the 4.2.1 'leak' from Sammobile.com...what a dismal fukup. Flashed back to 4.1.2, factory reset and restore all my data. Then there was a 60Mb update available on Sunday (Settings - About Device - Software Update), which I did, and I'm still on 4.1.2.

Where did you get 4.2.2 from?

Cyanogenmod. Haven't had any issues. Previously had it with Omega, also no issues.

Omega is just stock with a few enhancements. Why are some people so adverse to trying a custom ROM? You can restore if you don't like it, and stock is the most bloated and sluggish firmware you can have on an S3.

+1 I tried stock again after a few months of CM. I immediately went back to CM

Bloated it might be, but why would that matter? And it is certaintly not sluggish. My phone is operating at light speed after reformatting and reflashing 4.1.2. That is an exercise I would not like to repeat regularly, that is my reason for sticking with stock Android.

Stock is most definitely sluggish compared to an AOKP ROM like CM 10.1. My mom's S3 is running stock and I was amazed how sluggish the OS felt even straight out the box. Updating the firmware made no difference. Bloat matters because it uses valuable system memory. I can't remember the last time I had to factory reset and restore my apps and settings. Now and again I grab a new nightly and install it in 5 minutes, and I download and install on the device. Even if a clean install is needed, it's hardly a bother. MyBackup Pro restores all my apps, app data, call logs and messages, Nova Launcher Prime restores my desktop and UI settings, and my Google account syncs all my contacts.
