I noticed massive drainage on the battery and checked the built in JB battery stats in the settings menu. I saw "media" using more than screen on time.
Read online and this is not specific to the JB update but rather an android issue that can arise when a file on the storage system engages the cpu in a loop effectively just burning battery non stop.
I removed SA News app which stored over 30k files of offline cached pages on my phone storage. Thinking the JB update tried to optimize it and got stuck.
Deleted it and it seems okay now.

Sorry, but you must have had a dud unit then. Coming from the iPhone 4 and 4s I can confidently say that is a load of horse manure. The responsiveness is on par if not better than the iPhone. And laggy? :wtf: I would recommend trying someone else's unit.

What was the fix?
I changed my password on the Vodacom web portal and included special characters. That messed with the app. He mailed me the apk which will be available in the Play store tonight.

I'm running it, no issues to report.
The only issue I have is my massively INCREASED battery life. Finding it difficult to run the battery down in a day with normal usage.
INCREASED battery life after removing all bloatware services? How many widgets constantly running? how many apps syncing in background...i.e. exchange, facebook, whatsapp etc... also how does the GPS compare to previous ICS if used?

I've disabled the samsung apps (ChatOn, SVoice, etc etc)
Widgets I have at the moment are: Better Battery Stats, Gmail, Calendar and a clock widget.
Sync is turned on, Wi-fi for most of the day. Gmail, twitter, whatsapp are checked often. I don't have a facebook app on my phone and I don't have an exchange account. I make/recieve a couple of phonecalls a day, and on average I send/recieve about 200-300 whatsapp messages a day. I've been getting screen on times of 5 hours + on a single charge.
Oh, and I keep my brightness quite low as well.
GPS battery usage is a little bit better, but I've only managed to test it once when I drove home on Friday afternoon with Waze.

shot! thinking of upgrading this evening without any wipe...lets hope all goes well. im assuming one would have to root the device again?
Also, will my S3 retain the current baseband if I perform a normal upgrade without any wipe or would i have to apply another baseband?

AMOLED screens are prone to burn-in similar to CRT's and plasma displays. Not trying to scare anyone, but I'm a bit paranoid.

Do any of you use screen protectors?
When I bought my phone on Friday, the salesman sold me an original Samsung case which covers the polycarbonate backing but obviously not the screen. He said you don't need a screen protector, as the Gorilla Glass 2 is almost impossible to scratch.

One things that impresses me about the S3 is its battery life. This phone completely outruns my HTC Sensation by a mile when it comes to battery longevity. After a full day of heavy usage (50 sms') emails and about 40min of calls, the battery is currently at 32% after running 16hrs on battery (running JB 4.1.1)

I've seen enough phones with scratched glass to make me believe in screen protectors. i bought 10 for R50 from Expansys and I am on my second one now.

I too got one with my Cygnett cover and thought it would dull the screen but it actually doesn't detract at all.
Would recommend one too.
Just to add, I too am noticing dramatically improved battery life after flashing the Polish JB firmware. Usually by this time of the night I have had to plug my phone in but now, after much the same daily usage as normal and no other changes, I am sitting with 33% battery left! Rather stoked.
