I just learned something new today. If you use Odin to flash alternative official firmware you lose your warranty. Even if you DON'T root it.

Samsung. Spent an hour with them on live chat and also phoned them to get the XFA firmware. They told me on both counts that if you install through Odin, your warranty will be void. they said that they will install it for me, but I have to bring the phone in. I told them I am not worried about the warranty, I will do it myself - they are currently looking for a way to help me (not sure that they will) to get XFA as a download although it is agtains their policy.

Phone them on 0860726786 if you want to confirm from them.

Did you trip the KNOX counter?

If you haven't tripped KNOX, they can not tell, and are most likely talking BS to prevent people from flashing themselves.

Hell yeah I did. I am already rooted :D
I couldn't take all the ads on the apps anymore. But they don't know it... yet...

That is what I also told them - I accused the guy on chat of lying to me and that he was never inclined to help me. I told him the warranty is intact as long as Knox isn't tripped. I have not read all the terms and conditions about warranty and ADH. Maybe someone who has can enlighten us.

If they do a proper check they will know which firmware was originally on the phone and how it was updated. And they can trace it back with device IDs. I doubt they will go through so much trouble though. But in principle I agree with you

The good ,the bad and the ugly of Vodacom contracts for the S5.:D
The good .Pick and Pay hiper is offring the S5 on Smart S for R429 per month for limited peroid only.:)
The bad . Vodacom has increased the price of Smart S from R469 to R489.
The ugly. Chatz connect has a deal where they offer the S5 for R479 PM on Smart S and claim that the price had been reduced from R489.They call it a killer deal.Only problem is that the previous month they offered the phone for R459.So their R10 price reduction is actually a R 20 price increase.

Regarding not being able to get LTE on mtn, was there are fix for the issue?

The sim is def LTE enabled

My problem is that LTE is not mentioned in the network option as discussed here

Any suggestions?

You have the 8 core model. No lte. 4 Core has lte.
Faster CPU slower Internet

Guess I got burnt - If FNB listed the actual model name I would have looked it up
They are very clever with their website, list very basic details

Thanks for the info

I wouldn't worry about it. I've got LTE switched off on mine (as I believe do many others) as there is a nasty delay in calls and service is pretty erratic anyway.

I leave it on with mine but understand others view. And no burn, it has advantages over the lte version

I was using Iphone 5S on LTE with no issues with call delays etc.
My friend on Vodacom however does have this problem.
I do have a use for LTE as we monitor our office ip cams while we are not there.

I am not in the position I was in with my old phone :/ Lucky I havent sold it yet :)

I had the same problem. My LTE shows as activated on MTN services but I could only get H+. I had to call it the call centre to get them to deactivate and reactivate LTE services as the original activation failed.

Been meaning to post the Ookla speed test I performed on my phone after 4G was successfully activated.
