Samsung Galaxy S6

What's your biggest user of battery? Probably screen. Also, push email sometimes takes a lot, as well as weather apps that keep accessing the GPS.
Nothing too major so far. Will try turning down push intervals. Its the wife's phone so been told not to touch it.

Shes coming from a A3 , so its a nice upgrade.

For those who haven't already found it, the S6 has a very cool self-test feature :

From the dialler screen, enter *#0*# and the phone will go into a very comprehensive, interactive self-test mode. The screen looks like this:

Just one cool function is that it tests out absolutely every sensor the phone has : compass, gyro, accelerometer, pressure (barometer) .. you name it!

I discovered that the phone has a few sensors I didn't even know about, like a grip sensor, and one that detects when there is a magnet in close proximity (Hall Effect sensor). The latter really works!

Lately my phone heats up like crazy.
Anyone else's doing the same?
My S6 (Edge) only really gets noticeably hot when it's either :
  • Fast-charging; or
  • Left in Camera mode for an extended period
Otherwise .. it generally stays pretty cool.
I would guess it would also get pretty hot if you do something computation- and/or graphics-intensive, like gaming. I've no real experience of that, though.

Yea fast charging I have stopped as it feels like the thing will explode.

Don't use it for images anymore in fear my pocket will catch fire.

Lately browsing mybb makes this thing heat up like a stripper.

Seriously will never in my life buy a Samsung phone again.

I suggest that you plug a different power cable into the Samsung charger. I've found that makes a big difference. In my case the original Samsung cable got pretty frayed and I think it might have been shorting itself and generating a lot of heat that way ... the phone and the charging point would both get hot. Now with a different non-Samsung cable in the charger it's a LOT better.

You are correct.

I ditch the original charger cable as well.

Definitely an improvement but still not nearly acceptable.

All in all buying this phone was the single biggest mistake in my young life.

Wow, rofl. That's a bold statement. Other people got pregnant, picked up a drug habit or killed themselves on motorcycles, and you ... bought a Samsung S6. :P

I would seriously join a class action lawsuit I honestly feel Samsung has to pay. They clearly made a mistake and deliberately went forth with the launch.

I couldn't take it anymore. The constant overheating and signal issues. Ended up trading it in at the local Pakistani shop for a iPhone 5s. I definitely lost out on the deal but at least I have a working phone now.

Does anyone have a link to the Firmware for the S6 edge? Looking for BUT but when I download from Sammobile it's only one file. Where do I find the csc and so forth?

Mines is fine. I do have a custom kernal thou. Phone never gets hot. The charging usb connection does thou.
