Samsung Galaxy S8

597MB update available on Vodacom.

I'm going to hope the reason the iPhone Wi-Fi calling is offline is because they were busy testing the S8 and this update is it, but more than likely not.

Edit: The option to enable Wi-Fi calling was added but as far as I'm aware it's offline for the whole Vodacom, once it's back online we are good to go.

come give your input here.... do you have input into when it will be back on line?

Question: if i'm in airplane mode, and wifi is on, will i be able to make and receive calls once wifi calling is enabled/working on vodacom side?

Hmmm, strange.

Do you have a CW AP active? What happens if you default to the Vodacom one, same result?
Sorry if you referring to my Vodacom mifi @ wifi dongle
"... CW... " it's just its custom name
i gave it.

The phone and everything is stock
and no root.

Im not complaining,
just curious.
My logic says wifi calling
is just working fine without
voLTE icon.
Anyway thanks for your response.

@Fanie, on which network are you? I am VC and I don't have the VoLTE icon. Does it have to be provisioned with the network?

ok, when you are making a call on wifi, are you using the wifi connection or the 4G connection? If you are using the 4G connection, that's VoLTE, if you are using the Wifi connection, that's Wifi Calling.

Maybe the 4G connection gets dropped when you are connected to the Wifi hotspot AND Wifi Calling is ON, because like Soul Assassin is saying, it's currently down at Vodacom.

Thanks. Might be a hassle since it's a company handset. Is there any real, tangible benefit to having it? Voice quality?

Voice quality YES.
Also if your phone is on LTE and someone phones you, the call rings on the caller's side, but not yet on your side, your handset first needs to drop down to 3G or lower before it starts ringing on your end. This causes me personally a lot of hang ups, since people don't want to wait 30seconds before I answer, even though the phone only rings like for 5sec on my side.

yes,
i think your explanation in above post sounds correct to me.
Thank you.

I know the certain someone that helped me get Wi-Fi calling on the S6 almost a year ago was out of office until today so I'm hoping it will be back soon or at least by the weekend.

Yes if you are in "Flight mode" but you have the Wi-Fi manually turned on you can make and receive calls and text messages once the Wi-Fi calling is back online.

If you are overseas, and have sms roaming on only, could you still make calls via Wi-Fi?

I got nothing, even after checking manually. Vodacom device. Does all networks have the update?

A reset fixed the problem and the update is now downloading. I have just one question, what if the Wi-Fi signal is slow? Will we have calls like the crappy whatsapp calls?
