Branch? Excellent deal. F5500 is better, H6000 is uses pentile pixels (red, 2x green, blue) and lacks SMART.
I haven't seen the 51" anywhere. That would have suited my budget much better. Buying a house and transfer costs are going to dry me out. It will be a stretch & would have liked some recovery time but the scarcity of these TV's won't allow that.

Ok, I see they still have them @ the makro in Alberton for R8999
I'm looking at the 60" F5500. Online reports suggest that it is a pentile display. Only the 60" in 2013 F5500 range - other sizes not. 2014 H-range all are pentile.
Any difference between the 51" and 60" that you got that you can see please?

Isn't it the PS60H5000 which is pentile, not the PS60F5500?
Either way, nothing wrong with it.

The 60-inch members of the 5500 and 5300 series have somewhat different subpixel structure compared to the 51- and 64-inch sizes (subpixels are the little colored dots that combine to form a pixel). On the 51- and 64-inchers, and just about every other flat-panel TV in existence, each pixel is composed of one red, one green, and one blue subpixel (RGB), all of uniform size. On the 60-inchers however, there is one green subpixel for every red, and another green subpixel for every blue (RGBG). In addition, the areas of the red and blue pixels are larger than the green ones, which allows them to emit more light but use less power overall. There are also most likely half the number of red and blue sub-pixels since they "share" a green one--we're awaiting confirmation from Samsung on that last point of difference.
This kind of subpixel structure is known as PenTile on some displays, for example many of Samsung's OLED smartphone screens. Samsung says that there should be no major difference in picture quality between the 60-inch and the other sizes at normal, reasonable viewing distances.
Honestly i havent seen any differences, but maybe its coz i use the 60" for gaming and blurays in the man cave and the wifey uses the 51" to stream tv series/movies via plex in the bed room.
Thanks. Want to stick with plasma if possible. My current 42" plasma that I'm happy with, except size, is used for everything: DSTV, blu-rays and gaming. No man cave sadly
Last question to bug you please Wakka. How far do you sit from the 60"?
Anyone manage to upgrade the firmware to 2? The direct update takes ages (6-7 hours) on a 2mb line.
I set it to download and install when I go to bed and when I wake up, it hasn't updated.
Downloaded the fw to a usb but seems like the "support" section doesn't detect the usb.
Any help would be appreciated.

Have you followed the installation instructions?
Step1
1. Download the firmware file from Samsung.com into your computer.
File Name : T-XXXX.X.exe
※ XXXX.X is firmware version.
2. Connect the USB Memory Drive to the USB port of your PC.
Copy the file to USB Memory Drive.
3. Go to the USB Memory Drive, and then double click the file.
4. Click the “install” button.
5. The file will be installed.
6. Confirm that a folder containing the
firmware files has been added to the USB
memory drive.
Step 2
1. Insert the USB Memory Drive
containing the firmware into the USB
port of TV.
2. Turn on the TV and wait around 1 or 2
minutes.
3. Press the MENU button, select
„Support‟, „Software Update‟, and then
„By USB‟.
4. The message for searching for update
files is displayed. Press Yes.
5. If the TV finds a valid firmware version,
it displays the message below.
Press Yes, then TV starts updating.
A new software update is available.
Update from version 1013 to version 1015?
Yes No
6. Press Yes, then TV starts updating.
When the firmware upgrade is
complete, the TV turns off and then
back on by itself.
Thanks Marine1...this seemed to be the issue.
I managed to update tonight. Expected a different GUI but still looks the same.
There is definitely a speed increase between the Smart hub menus.
Will have to check if the media player plays better formats. Plex sometimes doesn't have subtitles and the native media app does but some videos don't play - mostly large HD files.
Does this update keep showing a "Smarthub has been updated" status message? I seem to keep getting this message everytime the tv switches on. How do I make it go away? Ive pressed both the Details and OK buttons but it still shows up the next time the tv is powered on.
