I guess that's where I'm weird. I choose to see that as part of the original source and often a sharper more accurate picture.

Other people again like yourself prefer the more soft focus look, which to me is a "false" representation of the original source.

It's not really a soft focus look or blurry at all, the filter basically just removes the noisiness you sometimes see.
mine is only on "light" though not max.

It does absolutely nothing else to the image besides remove pixel noise
 
My sources don't have pixel noise...

But I'll put it on tonight for the sake of science to see of I notice any major difference, in the past these things introduces additional motion blur which was rubbish for playing games.

I figure if you don't have any of the hocus pocus stuff then you have nothing to worry about from on TV to another.

It's not about your input sources, film grain happens when the studios transfer a movie from film to digital (the bluray). It's on the disc and part of the movie itself.
A movie with film grain indicates a good quality transfer to bluray, but to me personally it's preferred to remove some of the grain at least (low setting) just so the image isn't as noisy. It does nothing to edges and doesn't blur anything as such.

Check it out, it really works well and improves overall quality imo.
Noisy video sucks.
 
My primary use is for games so I suspect it will be a problem. Will try it this weekend though.

Every videophile purist however advises to put all that stuff off though.

Anybody else experiencing a very low, hollow and not natural noise when "low bass" background music is playing in a series or movie?

I mainly use the TV for watching movies and series via XBMC and with a specific low sound there is a very hollow and disturbing sound (that fills the whole house) coming from the speakers. Almost like the speaker cannot handle the frequency. Speaker volume is always on 40 and then I control the volume via XBMC.

I really don't know how to explain it any better.

I know what you are talking about and my set has it too, but not THAT bad - if it fills the whole house there is definitely something wrong.
Mine also only does it on high volume (like 70) but the hollow sound isn't too loud.

I would take it back probably (your issue sounds bad) if I were you, hear what they say.

Also remember that the flatscreens of today are a lot thinner than the sets of 4 years ago - and as such the sound gets worse as there is no where to put the speakers

I think Samsung add sound so that the TV works, but know that many people will install/purchase external speakers or home theatres.
(if one can spend R9-10K on the TV, surely they would spend R1K or more on speakers)

These TVs just aren't made for audio... lol :p

TL;DR: So yeah - if you're gonna buy some speakers I wouldn't really worry.... else you might probably wanna take it back.


Edit: Also, try the "clear voice" setting - that's what i'm doing as a temporary fix until I get my Home Theatre Setup.

Yeah mine is very bad and it is never at high volumes at all. TV has never been above 40 and XBMC is almost always only half of the volume. Baby in the house and we only watch TV after she went to bed. This resonating bass sound wakes her up at times.

I don't have a problem on high sound though. As an example: Screaming girls sound normal in the movies.... EDIT: No no! Not that screaming and not those type of movies.

We are not going to put it through a home theater setup at all. So think I will just take it back and ask them to tell me if it is normal.

Not definite, but a guess - Have you tried maxing your XBMC volume and then using the TV remote for volume changing?
(I understand you probably don't want to do that, but just test it)

I'm thinking that if your TV needs to amplify low volume inputs it might be the cause?

Yeah it will be an irritation but I will test it tonight anyway.

Why won't you run it through a HT?

You get those very small ones which are least something other than the TV
 
The power button on my smart remote has already gone bust.

Loving the tv though. Plex app is awesome too. Beats my Rpi interface.
