Hi guys.

Im kinda stuck at the moment on deciding which phone to ghet for my upgrade. I have narrowed it down to the usual 2 suspects.

1. iPhone 5 16GB @ MTN for R349x24 with 300mb data. R100 Airtime. 25 sms

2. Samsung Galaxy S4 @ Cell C for R389x24 Straight up 100 with the 1gb data.

My main use for the phone is as follows : Facebook , Twitter , Whatsapp , E-mail

I am not a heavy downloader as i mainly just browse. I down stream videos or youtube either. Im not too concerned with downloading apps.

I know both are great phones, but the S4 feels so big and bulky compared to the iPhone.

I am a bit suspect about the Cell C network. Whats the use of having 1gb data if u struggle connecting to the net.

Or should i just get a Blackberry Bold 9900 with BIS for like R280 a month without worrying about data.

Don't do it - you will have endless problems and regret it for the next 24 months

Between the S4 and iPhone I would suggest you get the iPhone as it will suit YOUR needs perfectly. (that is if you can't wait for the new iPhone)

But the better phone is the S4 ;):D

Imho none of the above. All have been out for a while already.

Wait for next gen iPhone should be coming soon.

Last point - blackberry bold 9900? Really?

I've just ordered a S4 on that Straight up 100, to replace a stolen iPhone 5 32gb.

Thanks NIMZ - Signing a 24month contract for a blackberry in mid 2013 seems like the wrong thing to do. I surely dont want to sit with regret and be annoyed for the next 2 years.

I know everybody will say iPhone apps is expensive but to bve honest im not to worried about downloading apps. Just wondering if the 300mb will be enough for browsing only.

Do you have wifi at home or office?

Yes, if you aren't desperate for a new phone just wait a few months. Lol, don't even consider wasting your time with the blackberry - gone are all the benefits they once had.

Personally, I would go for the S4 as it is the better phone, however, I won't take the phone on a Cell C contract. So yes, the iPhone 5 would be my choice if I were you.

No wifi at home/office. However i do have 3g 4gig internet at home which i use on the pc when im home. So data will mainly be used only when im not at home.

Im not to keen on CellC. Surely there network must be crap if they can offer 1gb data compared to voda/mtn at 200-300mb at the same price?

then it should last you the month provided you don't do any software updates or streaming

I know the iPhone 6 is coming out at the end of the year however it will be very expensive, where i can get the iPhone 5 now for R349 per month. The S4 is a amazing phone however i feel it istoo big and bulky compared to the iPhone 5

firstly you are not a heavy data user, YET.

once you get a smartphone that changes, at least in 90% of users, the other 10% are just not normal IMHO (my younger brother is one of them so no offense intended)

Secondly, if you have not picked it up form this forum yet, Stay away form sell C seriously no matter what, rather take a 3310 at R1000 per month than an S4 for free on sell C, you will be better off the network is just that bad.

as for your options, I believe you missed the point just a little. if you go on hardware and what you will be able to do with your device your options in South Africa right now are:
tied for first: Galaxy S4, HTC one, Xperia Z
Second place: Galaxy Note 2
Third place: Nokia Lumina 920
Fourth place: HTC one X, one X+ (good luck finding them in SA) and the S3
Fifth place iPhone 5

and of you feel you want to argue with my ratings here, look up the hardware and bench-marking results, I am not taking any OS or apps into account, just hardware.

Baxteen - for sure. Agree with u 100%

The S4 does outperform the iPhone 5. Went to about 6 cell phone shops in my mall and all of them recommended the S4 over the iPhone 5.
Only thing that puts me of the S4 is its size, however i guess its something u will get used to. Plus ur screen is 1" bigger than the iPhone5.

So im going to decide over the weekend and play around with both of them and decided on monday which one i want to go for.

Have a iPhone. It is broken after being 1 month old and in for repair at Cell C. Waiting the 21-unlimited days repair time on iPhones. :wtf: bought a S4 cash 2 days ago. Not going back to the Iphone. The S4 is so much better.

I am due to upgrade in Feb and I really really really want the S4 just have to be patient a little longer lol. I have a BlackBerry Curve 9360 at the mo. Nice phone but nah never again
