I put it on an old galaxy S plus for my daughter to play with (so she could get more games on it).
Runs like a dream :)


Oh, and Apple 5 is far behind galaxy s5

Only very vague rumours that it will but I have no idea why people are so fixated in this plastic versus metal thing. Most things around us now are made of plastic, particularly our electronics. Probably bloody Apple's fault again that everyone thinks a phone MUST BE glass and metal. Those materials add unnecessary weight to a phone. And then people slap covers on them anyway.

A ludicrous infatuation.

No one knows because such a device has not been announced. Stay away from metal phones though - they're just prone to damage and scuff marks.
 
HTC one of the worst flagships atm? Lol.. Okay... No IP certification, really? Camera, really? What kind of support do you need? If taken with a service provider, they will provide the support needed in the event something goes wrong. From a hardware and software point of view, the One is an amazing device. Sense has got so much better than from years gone by. I take it Bryn that you currently own the HTC one for you to feel this badly about it?

Lol the S5 has already been announced.. Yet you have a go at the HTC, and you tell the user the S5 has not been announced. It's already being made available on pre order, and should be available within a short while as Vodacom has already released the barcode for it.

I doubt Samsung will release another version of the S5, one with plastic and one with a metal frame. It's virtually the same design as the S4, but with the funny looking back.

There was a rumour that the S5 would come in plastic and metal, with the metal being slightly more expensive. That is what he was alluding to. This rumour haven't been realized yet.

I have had almost all the galaxies, the new TABS excluded. On all of my devices I flashed CyanogenMod because the phone started going slow. If you don't mind that I would say go for the S5. If you want to stay stock for the whole lifetime of the phone, I would go with the 5S. It is cheaper than the S5 at the moment and I guess in 6 months time you will get better resale value if you want to change.

Also, I haven't noticed that the iphone 5 slowed down, so I wouldn't think that the 5S will either. I have noticed that my galaxies slows down over time if I don't go the CM route.

Things to keep in mind -

Samsung has some really nice integration with it's TVs and it was really cool to flip through my photo's when the parents were up. You can equivalent apps, but nothing so nicely integrated in my opinion. I also really like S-Planner, in my opinion the best android calender. There is also some other "cool" things, but then again I never really used them and I don't think it is worth the bloat.

You need iTunes on the 5S, it was really problematic for me at the start, but since I now buy almost all my music from there I don't really mind any more. I also had a big issue that I couldn't just use it as a USB device, but I think I only ever used my galaxy once like that. No-one I know walks with a cable around, so I don't think it is that bad. With the 5S you do limit yourself a bit, but ask yourself if you really need all the other features. If I didn't walk around with my Galaxy and replaced it with the iPhone I don't think I would have many situations where I would have wanted to use the other "open" features.

That said I will probably go for the Galaxy again, but my upgrade is only later in the year. Will see if there is no Nexus around the corner rather.

Having a waterproof phone is extremely useful. The two best Android flagships are sufficiently waterproof, and it's widely rumoured that the LG G3 will be too. Having a good camera is very useful too. If someone is asking for advice, it's irresponsible to recommend a device that falls well short of its rivals.

HTC support is non-existent in SA. It will just take much longer to wait for a repair, whereas Samsung have the best warranty in the business. No retailer will fix anything that goes wrong free of charge, no questions asked.

Sense is irrelevant because anyone with some 'sense' will root and put custom firmware on their spiffy new flagship.

The camera is very average, so I don't get why you're brushing this point off.

And you didn't mention the supermassive lower front bezel. It's possibly the worst I've ever seen on a phone.

This is something I don't get. I've had various cellphones for almost 20 years now and haven't had one die because of dust or water. I know accidents do happen but the chances of my phone getting stolen is bigger than it failing because of dust or water damage and that is why I have insurance which will replace it in the event of an accident.

So why do I have an S4 gathering dust since November when I got my Nexus 5?

Well maybe because after going through an S2, an S3, an S4 and a Note, I've come to realise that Samsung has become an over bloated, under developed, rushed out pile of cheap schyte. Thats hardware and software btw.

I ran CM on my S2 quite beautifully and that combination was still the best I've ever had, but then it all dipped and it became a mission to get a samsung phone married with decent software that worked.

Then I found the N5.

Everything Samsung wants to be it and it works beautifully. I'll grant you the camera is not as nice as the S4, but that's not to say that it doesn't take nice photographs, because it does.

And I have never not lasted a full day, as opposed to fiddling and flashing and tweaking Samsung's bloated offerings. Easily 4 hours screen on time as opposed to a friend now who is complaining about her S4 battery life being so poor and I haven't got the inclination or the patience to fix it for her (I will but it's such a fsckin drag)

I last looked a couple of days ago thinking I could flash it onto my dusty S4 and it was on about the 4th nightly. Way too early for a daily driver.

Hmm, if they do release a metal one as well, then I will hold my hand up and say I was wrong. I will be very surprised if they do.

I can't remember once having lost a phone due to water damage, and I have gone through so many phones before. I bet before they introduced water resistant phones, you didn't really mind not having one that could survive a drop in water right? So why now?

In terms of support for HTC, again, via the networks, it's normally 5 to 10 working days when a phone goes in for repair anyway. We have dealt with Samsung and Apple, and on some occasions the phones came back after more than 2 weeks. How long do you want to wait before getting your phone back from repairs? When Leaf were around for the old HTC phones back in the day, the support was non existent either.

Also out of touch with phones? I don't think so mate, I'm very much aware of what is going on. One cannot know about every phone a manufacturer might or might not do.
There are so many quality phones flying around, but anyway, I suppose Samsung will host another big launch for their Flagship when they release the metal body version
