Sanral e-toll billing tests begin

/places bet that something is going to go wrong and there will be an article shortly about this with much consumer uproar...

Some motorists could get test invoices during this trial phase.

Those who were not registered could receive invoices via post, but would not need to pay the fees incurred in the test phase.
What, I never consented to them sending me pieces of their toilet paper.

Spamming my mail box? Isn't there a consumer act that prevents this?

First rule of testing, have a good sample.

So how's the sample size huh, Sanral :D

“During this test phase, registered e-road users will be able to observe the test toll transactions on their e-toll accounts,” the agency said in a statement.

So they calling our public roads, paid with our taxes, 'e-roads' now?

Guess it's going to feel weird driving the same hiway on the 1st that I drove on the day before, only this time as a 'criminal'. Well, if getting out of my comfort zone is what it takes to oppose an unjust government, at least I know I'll be doing my part against the ANC's corruption.

Ha Ha....SANRAL go fvck yourself!

Do I have to buy a tag to travel on the tolled roads?

No you do not. SANRAL will like to have you believe that this must happen, but there is no law that compels you to purchase or install an e-tag.

Theoretically they need to mail the invoices by registered mail to ensure you have received the invoice. There are just too many flaws, irregularities and unanswered questions

Too all the idiots who registered.
I hope that beeeeP in your car annoys the crap out of you :) like a fly that wants a booger in your nose. Enjoy.

I also know that mOst of the 200 000 registered e tags is business like avis budget tanker services and so on. Which pisses me of even more. Could business not support the public? Nooo they are just passing the cost to the consumer so who cares.

Mila I very much doubt that since most of the fleet vehicle services have come together and are taking legal action against SANRAL. Most of the current users are those who have tags for the OTHER toll roads who without their permission where linked to the etoll system (anyone able to give a legal view on this? Did you have the option to NOT allow your tag to be linked?) the other registered users are all the government vehicles - local, provincial and national who will use the road. Most likely they forced all their employees to register their private vehicles as well.

+1 - also the Austrian company know how to manage it in European countries with a very strong rule of law, good luck here...

You know ... that still fcking pisses me off! 1/3 of the money will be leaving the country to this Austrian company!!!! Surely we have private companies that could have done the same job? Why the hell give it to a overseas company when you have capable companies here that needs the business? This does not mean I support etoll...I frekking hate it and hope those gantrees rusts and goes to ****!....but this Austrian business just really...dit gee my 'n baie groot pyn in my hol!

Sjoe..sorry about the language...but ja...the Namakwalander in me comes out to play when I get upset.

Sooo, basically just treat them the same as if they were sent during the actual live phase, huh?

It's obvious: to hide the money trail. Kickbacks ...

This is only the start... the next few years will show that numberplates *WILL* have RFID tags embedded by law. the wheels are already in motion for that under the guise of 'Combatting Car Theft'

We actually do have at least one local company that specializes in license plate recognition software, which is being used successfully in the southern suburbs of Cape Town. There was no need to take the business out of the country.
