Because you're still paying to pirate, internet connection, bandwidth, effort, etc.

If cheaper services were available to do this easily and legally in SA - I would... I don't see being held ransom at over R600 a month to have occasional access to programs I might want to watch.
 
I couldn't believe it when I heard that chop equating piracy to murder. What a complete pile of horse****!

I think he had to look up piracy in the dictionary and he saw a pic of Blackbeard.

Exactly, declare war on rapist and murderers. They can still do something agains piracy, but that shouldn't be their main focus.
Why worry about piracy, its not like the artist are dying of hunger, maybe its because of Revenue loss (no money going to the governments pockets).

I read once about South African people. Apparently we are people who like to brag with who got the biggest and who got the most expensive and who got the longest...etc, etc. So I guess that R500 difference is to pay for that huge double cab 4x4, that goes 2Km on 1Litre and is only used to drive to work with or drop of the kids at school, no way will the 4x4 function ever be used.
 
In the markets in Mumbai (India) you see thousands of CDs, DVDs and Blu-Ray discs going for a few Rupees. Well printed cover artwork, printed discs. There is not one stall, there are hundreds. If you glance at the merchandise for longer than 5 seconds, the stall-holder will offer to play any disc on his portable player he has brought along. That is what makes India incredible, no-one cares a stuff. Then in Hyderabad you can walk through a slum and in 100 metres see this gleaming office park set in sumptuous gardens with well-dressed people milling about.

They could not even stop this 20yrs ago with the 'pirated VHS tapes', so what has improved now all of a sudden :whistle:
 
I sure am glad the SAPS are gonna start arresting all these anti-piracy folk. They were starting to get on my nerves with their self-righteous blabber.
 
Piracy is a soft target. Actually, when somebody goes after something or somebody else, ALWAYS FOLLOW THE MONEY! If the "pirates" were put out of business, that would mean that the importers who are now in BEE hands, would make a lot more money. They won't necessarily pay more taxes, but their shareholders(BEE guys) would pocket a heng of a lot more. So, somebody at Musica, CNA or whoever sells games and movies, spoke to somebody at the police and made somekind of promise (kickback?) and now suddenly police resources are being re-directed away from crime to soft targets.

Always follow the money. If big money was not involved, nobody would care.

That bring me to an off-topic item - Why can't we have bounty hunters to hunt down murderers? That would also be big business, with a bonus. Crime would drop like a rock. Why would that be wrong and how would that differ from the current mass of security companies in operation today? Are they not actually bounty hunters paid by us to catch crooks that break into our homes? They definately fall under the definition of bountyhunter.
 
No, they fall under the definition of 'guard'. They're there to guard belongings or persons from harm or theft; a bounty hunter would be someone actively pursuing those who have a bounty against their person for the sake of apprehension or murder.

I'm far too tired to make sure of the legal talk surrounding this, but bounty hunters are wholly illegal in SA, as you need a warrant to be able to arrest someone here, unless they have been witnessed committing a crime and/or are being arrested under suspicion of having committed a crime, and as only police tend to be able to mete out arrest warrants...
 
This is necessary and a good thing. Putting kiddies in jail for downloading songs is just stupid, but these are organized money making syndicates, you cant ignore smaller crimes to just solve murders. And quite frankly it will take about 20mins to round up all the guys selling fake dvd`s. They can do it on the way to solving the murders :P

Guy down the road bought Operation Valkyrie game from them. Is it pirated? How can you tell? Artwork and disc look ok, even has offer from author with reply-form.
 
The fact that all the games are priced the same should be your first hint
be it for x360 or pc (number of discs determines price)
Second big hint should be: you have to copy a crack off the disc o.O
//edit: i believe that at some point they started modifying the installer of the game itself so that the crack automatically replaces the original exe without the user having to copy it over manually
(as is the case with the downloaded warez versions of the same games)
and thirdly: you cant play their games online

As for xbox games...

Wow Cybergames is still around???

I remember ordering from them once in the 90s - I placed my order online, my dad sent an EFT and my game arrived at the post office a few days later... goodtimes!

They must have a very successful business having been around for so long
