SAPS issues tender for armoured double cab bakkies

Montana's Next Rich People SUV Is Coming - And It's Bulletproof

Tender mmmmm

For high risk missions I suppose? Great if that's the case.

We South Africans love having a moan, and we also have good reason to be skepticle of any government spending, the track record of government doing well in SA isn't great. But I don't think we need to be too negative about this one. Under the GNU it seems a lot of bad actors have lost their government protection, and the more specialised police units seem to be given more and more freedom to actually do their jobs.

If these armoured vehicles will be deployed to get the gang overrun areas of the country back under control, that's great. I mean one just needs to drive the N2 between Somerset West and Cape Town to see what areas look like where no sane policeman would dream of going in to do do any sort of police work today. The cops can't access these areas at all. To regain control of these areas will need lots of armoured vehicle and more “military” style policing.

But fear not, soon enough some one will start crying about the police using “aparthied style tactics” again.

Driven a couple of the past months, I still can't justify the need for the police to have them.
SARS recently received their armoured vehicles, BMW X5 with every accessory on the list, armoured through BMW. R4.8m, each.

There is a very big raid taking place next week, I guess SAPS requires armoured vehicles to deal with the type of trash that will get raided.

So silly. We all know nobody mods a Hilux like the Taliban.
They should get the tender.

Is 7 million per vehicle reasonable to put in a tender ? Just asking for my friend.

Status Symbols? You know, like Apple iPhones.
Exactly. Even when they change Commissioner, they change the vehicles because the Commissioner refuses to be driven around in the previous Commissioner's car, even when the Q5 was still brand new.

But please dont forget, they are there to serve the people.

Aaaai! The Cadres ... :(

The high end BMWs come standard with every accessory so that's unavoidable.
I wasn't aware of that, was strange to see each accessory as a separate line item, with the price for each item.

In a country where glorified ”spaza shop” owners are driving around in armoured cars, you can't justify the need for the police to have armoured vehicles?

The police did not need fancy offices in the center of Pretoria, bought at exhirbitent cost from some connected cadre, but I can definitely see the need for armoured vehicles. Especially if they are planning on taking on some of the more organised and violent criminal networks in our country.
