SARS E-Filing 2017

So I submitted my return on Sat evening, immediately got the acknowledgement e-mail. Did the calcs too, so I know what is due to me.

Then waited patiently for the IT34 or notice of audit - niks, nothing, diddlysquat !
These normally come through quite quickly, phoned the helpline this morning and they say there is a glitch issuing the IT34

Anyone else experiencing this?

During the last financial year I had a dental operation that was completely out of my own pocket (No medical aid).

Anyway I can claim for these expenses?

It seems like their automatic information matching system is not able to match automatically my ERP5 information.

I got mine immediately this morning at about 11am

Eh, i am having issues. My employee IRP5 information is not pulling through. SARS help line is swamped, estimated wait time is 40 mins

So I finally get through, they cant explain why the information didnt pull through. They say I must do it myself. To which I replied something when wrong on your end - and I must sort this out? He said either i do it myself or i go to a branch. Both option do not suit me.

Why is this now my problem - eish! Stuff just doesnt work in SA.

Why doesn't it work in the first place? It worked last year? Whats the problem this time around?

Is it too much to expect that SARS does their job properly?

yes you can, but there is a chance that it won't make much of a difference. I had R13000 addititonal medical expenses and adding it or removing it from the tax return made no difference to the payout

If you claim against a travel allowance then there is a good chance that you will be selected for audit / verification.

Other than that I suspect it's random.

For some retarded reason last year my salary was put down as Travel allowance.
Was audited but approved in the end. Got quite a bit back

Verification done after submitting documents yesterday at +- 14:30 and a little more than R15K coming my way (then most of it to the cardiologist).

First 6 returns I submitted all got audited i.e. had to supply log book, past 3 haven't been. Here's hoping for more of the same this year...

My wife got an e-mail today that stated this:

Dear Taxpayer

VERIFICATION OF ASSESSMENT

We refer to the verification of the assessment for the 2017 tax period. Please note that no adjustment has been made to this assessment. However, in terms of the Tax Administration Act the South African Revenue Service reserves the right to conduct further reviews in future if required.

My wife contributed more than the allowable deduction in the previous year to her pension fund (actually an error on the employer's side). The ITA34 of 2016 shows this as "Amount c/f to retirement". I was actually hoping it would be carried over to this year but it also shows R1 as "Amount b/f from previous year".

OK, so everyone who has carry forward that has had this issue it seems, well, I lodged a dispute, lets see what the result is...
