My colleague says he hasn't had a tax return paid out to him for years now, although he does submit it yearly.

He's been to SARS every year, and they tell him that it has been sorted, and each time they give him a timeframe of 7 to 21 working days before it will be fully sorted, yet it just never happens.

Understandably he's fed up now with taking a day off work every time to wait in SARS' queues with no results despite their promises. They just say "it's a glitch on your account". Surely this isn't fair on him.

What steps are there to escalate something like this? They probably owe him over 50k now in total.

This is the only error he gets, nothing more descriptive unfortunately:

I had that same message for three months. Turned out I changed my bank details and they needed to be verified, but it took over a dozen queries to get that answer.
Took all documents to a SARS office and got sorted quick quick.

Yeah, he's been there a few times over the years.

hmm

When I open it in acrobat (not chrome), I see they still say they owe me some bucks. So I guess no refund yet.

Yeah, if there's no "Electronic refund" line, it's not scheduled for payment on their side yet. The balance also goes to 0 when that happens.

Hi all. I spoke with a very helpful agent this morning. You don't need to go into a branch. But there is an additional place you need to ensure you update.
That is under the home tab, then manage SARS info, or something like that, don't remember the exact wording. They have said I will have my money tomorrow.

Update what exactly? There are numerous fields that you can update on there.

So I filed on the 1st.
Got request to submit documents for review the same day. Uploaded them within the hour.
On the 5th I got the completion letter.
Today at 19:00 got another request to submit supporting documents. Will call them tomorrow to see what is still outstanding...

Just an update...
Had to go into SARS.
Looks like the PDF documents I uploaded got messed up a bit. I check this morning and they looked fine on my side, but when we checked at the branch they were not. It didn't take long. Around 15 minutes from stepping through the doors at 9:35.

They showed a waiting time of up to 6 hours at the entrance... was ready for a long wait.

Now let's hope everything is sorted...

Sorry, my bank account details. So, even though I updated them during my actual submission of my return, I still needed to do it in this other place, which they don't tell you about.

stop compl..... oh, nevermind

Well I must say I'm disappointed that my wife's refund is still not showing as zero, probably because she was selected for audit (and that was passed last week Monday successfully). Maybe a day or two later, but still it's just so frustrating.

Better? :p

The current SARS system for requests for service contains an automated escalation to request for case follow-up and then to repeat escalation case if the case does not get resolved. Somewhere someone should have provided an answer. has he got any case numbers for when he visited a branch. he should be able to use those to escalate via the call centre.

I'm looking for a good tax practitioner in the Sandton area. I need some advice specifically around deductions.
Any recommendations?

I just come from a Sars branch. There was a special stopper on my account because my new banking details are not the same as on my IRP5. So now I'll have to wait for head office to remove the special stopper. This will take about 21 working days.
