Verification, owing SARS about R500. Do I pay or wait for verification results? Was also overtaxed on severance pay, do I object the issue now or after verification outcomes?

This is the issue I'm going to appeal:

It is astonishing to see the level of ignorance an arrogance by organizations sitting and dealing with other people's money in the 1st place, not their own, becomes over time, while they are the experts and Law/Rule creators to manipulate the uneducated.

When completing the wizard can anyone shed some light on which option I need to select - I've privately (ie not in a company or anything) made/sold some widgets during the year and would like to add the income/expenses to my returns because I'm such a good citizen :p Best fit I can find is local business, trade and professional income, is that correct?

There was a change a few months ago in the administrative process dealing with application for tax as well as the submission of the recognition of transfer (on transfer of benefits between funds).
Pre July 2017 the ROT01 was submitted by the transferring fund
Post July 2017 the transferring fund applies for the tax directive only and the receiving fund must submit the ROT01 (SARS ignores the ROT01 if it is submitted by the transferring fund as they require the receiving fund to confirm that they actually received the benefits post July 2017).

It also did not help that pre April 2018 the directive and the ROT01 had to be exactly the same (meaning if there was returned earned on the benefits between the date the tax directive was applied for and the date the actual benefits were transferred the ROT01 would be rejected).

It now appears that some administrators were caught off guard and never submitted the ROT01 (or they were submitted and rejected because of differences in values as explained above). The impact is that SARS is aware of the transfer (as a directive was issued) but the ROT01 is pending. While you can still submit your tax return for the Feb 2018 tax year SARS won’t issue the assessment.

You will get a message saying "Recognition of Transfer outstanding" or, if you have already submitted, the message will say that manual intervention is required.

If I may ask, who is the administrator of the new fund that you transferred to ?

Thanks for the knowledgeable response. What does this mean for myself? With who do I query this? What will now happen to my 2018 return? AForbes

Best would be to 1st confirm that this is indeed the issue, only option to do this is you will have to call SARS and hope that the person on the other side of the line is helpful. If they confirm that this is the issue you can contact Forbes and ask them for the final ROT01 that they submitted as well as the evidence that SARS accepted this (or you can just do this in any case). Otherwise, if you are not in a hurry, you can just wait.

Thank you very much. I think its going to be a battle because they under the impression that the old fund is responsible for this. But atleast youve made it clear, because my resturn does state code 9863 - outstanding recognition of tranfer and that manual intervention as abovementioned. Thank you.

Good luck, send them the SARS document in the link, that should open their eyes

Seems I owe SARS a nice R4400 this year due to my fringe benefit tax and cashing out a small policy last year. Please spend it wisely :crying:

It was a quiet Sunday and I decided to do my tax return. I couldn't get pass the "Busy loading your form" popup. Tried different browsers, even tried another PC(I am using a different laptop to the one I used to submit last year), and other things (like http://www.sars.gov.za/ClientSegments/Individuals/How-Register-Tax/Pages/eFiling-Compatibility-Guidelines.aspx).

Anyways, was about to give up when I tried the work's Vodacom sim, and it worked. I was on a MTN hotspot before. What a waste of time

Filed on the 1st and have a refund due. I'm not selected for audit, but my SOA does not show any payment date. It only shows the refund due. How long does the refund process normally take?

Call Centre says payment will be made within 7 working days of filing.

Check your status today, it should be completed

Filed my returns on 02/07/2018

And now I have discovered I have an outstanding return from 2009. I registered in 2010, 2009 was below the threshold for returns. Struggling to get my IRP5 but I have the payslips from 2008/2009.

Why was this not an issue with previous returns?
