I changed my medical aid scheme with Discovery to Classic Saver. I've now received an IT3(b) certificate from them. Is this something I have to submit separately to my tax return?

thestaggy Normally this is a certificate showing interest earned on your MSA. If this is the case, this will form part of the question regarding the local interest tick box on the wizard of your ITA34. This needs to be ticked as yes and once your generate your return you will have to fill this in on your tax return. Hope this helps.

Yoggiebear So I will then include this with other sources of local income then? Add them all up under 4201?

Just got off the phone with SARS, turns out I'm under audit, not verification as initially suspected. This explains why I haven't heard anything from them as yet. Now the long, long, long process of waiting begins. Luckily I have nothing to hide but I just know that they will do whatever they can to delay paying out my refund, that's just how they roll
Called SARS again now to request my official notification of AUDIT as per their process. Agent told me that I am not under audit as yet, I'm going through the normal verification process. All docs submitted as 100% correct and that I should wait out the 21 working days. Best advice (note to self), don't panic just because you are expected a refund and not hearing from them. Rather log on once or twice a day to request a fresh statement of account to see if there has been any progress, other than that, wait out the TAT. Calling and frantically trying the speed up the process does not help in any way, you only do so once the 21 days have passed

Hello All
Been following the blog and it has been very informative
Some remarks as to the audit and verifications audit, I do the filing for my family who all have either travel allowances or use company vehicles. And we all get selected for verification audits every year.
There is a difference between a verification audit and an audit, the verification audit just quickly goes through your docs and compares them to your IRP form whereas an audit is much more thorough, and the auditors will do an in-depth examination of your finances.
So, if you have been selected for a verification audit and if you have changed or added anything to the e-filing form then most probably will be selected have the following ready
1. Copy of IRP5
2. Copy of Medical aid Tax certificate and all other invoices claimed
3. Travel log for the year for the vehicles claim
4. If the vehicle has been purchased within the past 2 years, then a copy of the sale agreement as well
5. All RAF etc. forms (Old Mutual/Sanlam etc) the you claimed for

Obviously if you added other expenses then you will have to provide proof as well, but these are the most common
Then, you cannot rush these guys if you are going to phone them and scream at them your refund will just take longer (I know it shouldnt but strangely it does) so just have patience and refresh your SOA every day or so.
Last year I filled on the 30th, was chosen for a verification audit and had my refund the 7th but this doesn’t happen often, keep in mind the number of audits these people have to go through.

Hi All,

Has anyone had any experiences regarding the 50% commission rule at SARS? (The commission, to qualify as income for which you can deduct expenses against, needs to be more than 50% of the total income earned)

It may be the difference of 14k

Have not receive anything yet:

I am at this stage:

Filed on 2018-07-04, no documents uploaded, they got everything filled in.
Received an ITA34 on 2018-07-04(Same Day) version 1.....It says they owe me -RX,XXX.00, no mention of documents to upload.
next day I request status, get ITA34 2018-07-05 which is an exact duplicate of the original one.

Just now I loged in to the INCOME TAX WORK PAGE.

eFiling Staus=Assesment Received
SARS Status=Return Assessed...........Info:
Last Status Date:2018-07-05
Your Income Tax return has been assessed and
you should receive your Notice of Assesment as
an attachment in your eFiling profile within the
next two weeks.
I assume it was the ITA34 I received on the 2018-07-04, the same day.

What can I expect from this-? (Not sure)

Mine is pretty much the same, exactly the same statuses etc. The only difference is that I have been selected for verification and had to submit supporting docs. Check on your ITA34 if there is a date of refund under transaction details, also check on the same document if you have been selected for verification or not.

Filed on the 1st and have a refund due. I'm not selected for audit, but my SOA does not show any payment date. It only shows the refund due. How long does the refund process normally take?

So glad you finally saw the light
