SARS E-Filing 2019/20

Got an SMS just this morning saying I'd been auto-assessed and they owed me R6 000.

I log in, and see this on my eFiling:
View attachment 884232
I click on it, and it gives me a pre-populated return that shows they're actually going to pay me R12 500.

Well that went from good to even better :D Is everybody getting the wrong figure by SMS?
Mine also had wrong amount on the SMS.

The amount on the sms was the same as on the mobi app for me.

Always pay in every year around now. No need to lend SARS any money during the year and get it back later.

Quick question.

I edited to add in my travel claims and retirement annuity, then submitted.

Got a letter a few minutes later stating they want documents of my retirement annuity, not travel book. Which is weird. Anyway.

I sent the relevant document via the efiling website upload option. I however read later on the letter sent that they say you must send a copy of that letter with? Is that necessary?

Also, those of you who have sent in supporting docs, how long have they taken before checking and paying?

Thanks and good luck to all.

I got mine yesterday and noticed the value seemed very incorrect. Checked and it seems that they didn't add any of my medical items, so had to resubmit.

Got SMS yesterday and trying to submit this morning, but keep on getting a 'The service is unavailable.' error on different part of the system. The amount on the SMS looks right, will double check.

SARS thinks I owe them R9k .. sure

R7777 on
3801GENERAL FRINGE BENEFITS

So for the 1st i'm ever i saw something similar on my return (getting money back because i paid lump into ra last year which was processed this year etc) so i'm confused now as i dunno where this comes from.. btw mine says

3801 - Acquisition of assets less than market value

So i changed companies and i've not seen their filing (need to scour my email for it) but found it weird, is their statement showing the wrong text for the code? as when i looked up code via website i saw the fringe definition,

It's not really a choice for some. If you have a RA you get your money back around now.

Did mine one Monday. Was selected for verification. Happens every year i.e. logbook. Uploaded supporting documents. Haven't heard from them again :(

Hells, I also got audited and all they asked for was a retirement annuity amount that i only paid in for 1 month last year before stopping it. It was R442. They asked for that document but not my logbook? Weird.

No it's not. Don't stress too much about that.

It usually take about 4 weeks to see your money from upload, but with Covid-19 you can expect delays.

I do however find it very strange they didn't request a log book, and I have a sneaking suspicion they will after reviewing your documents, further delaying your payout. It's typical of them to do this; they'll do anything to delay your refund.

System overloaded with everyone trying to submit *yawn*

Another government success! They do this on the last day of the month.

How many businesses do you think are going to get hit with penalties for non-submission of VAT returns, all because they cannot access their efiling.

What a joke.

Side note.. poor sods in the US, every filing season u see videos on the "lobbying" aka corruption with their adoption of a similar system.

I was afraid of this.

Last year I had to go into the branch because of banking details change. That took exactly the 21 business days.

I will be really fuming if they ask for the logbook only after the fact.

So frustrating.

Exactly. Have 2 VAT returns due today, managed one, but struggling with the other.

I filed Mon evening. Refund (R20k+) paid yesterday morning.
Rental property, travel (logbook) and donations.

Two years ago I was asked to submit additional info for rental. It was the first year of rental income.

I do limited business travel. Normally around 10% of total.

So if i have to criticize their mobile application, their new shiny auto-generated return takes long to pull (traffic or just back-end processes? does this every time) and does not allow u to try and figure out what the codes mean.. e.g. above, 3801 definition different to their own website wtf.

2ndly timeout of app is annoying as regardless of my interaction with mobile app (ios), it times out.. surely clicking on sub headings / segments of document, typing etc = activity which means u dont timeout ?
