Nope, but my wife's dumb work submitted her irp5 with incorrect codes last year. It took almost 8 months to sort this out, as we did not realise that the codes were wrong until the ***hit the fan.Does anybody know of an instance where a bank submitted incorrect IT3(b) figures to SARS?![]()
I tend to believe that SARS databases are malfunctioning. It is highly unlikely that three of my banks messed up with their reports.Nope, but my wife's dumb work submitted her irp5 with incorrect codes last year. From experience, do not submit until the form has been updated and refreshed by the bank.
I just got a stupid auto-generated generic letter:I'm curious, did they ask for any documentation in relation to your change of address? I know if you change your bank details you have to go in person to a SARS branch to verify your new bank details, but do you have to do the same if you change your physical address?
Please note that the income tax return has been identified for verification in terms of the Tax Administration Act. Any refund due may bewithheld, pending finalisation of this process.
In the accompanying Notice of Assessment (ITA34) you will find all the information which SARS captured from the return. Please reviewthis information against the relevant material. If you find any errors, correct these by submitting a revised income tax return via eFiling orat your nearest branch.
Alternatively, please submit copies of the relevant material to SARS for review:
- IRP5/IT3(a) employee income tax certificates in respect of remuneration income and lump sums from your employer/pension fund
- IT3 certificates (for example IT3(b) and (c)'s from financial institutions in respect of interest and capital gains)
- Medical scheme certificates and receipts
- Income Protection and retirement annuity certificates
- Your travel logbook and/or invoices or detailed calculation in respect of travel claims
- Any other documents relevant to your declaration.
He filed 4 very late returns and they didn't complain or try charge any penalties??My brother filed for the first time this year. Not selected for verification. So he went and filed for 4 more years prior and again not selected for verification so 5 out of 5 all good. That was on Saturday and he was paid on Tuesday and it was a big amount considering 5yrs of returns.
So it's completely random it seems. Some will have their patience tested while others sail through to money in the bank...1
I guess they're not deemed to be late if he only submitted as soon as he first registered for efiling. Plus he only has RA and Medical Aid deductions. No rental or interest income. He filed 4 very late returns and they didn't complain or try charge any penalties??
Got my payment date for tomorrow. Will be taking my wife to dinner this week end![]()
Money is in
Did my eFiling earlier this week. I'm probably in the minority as I like the new interface. My refund was in my bank account by this morning. Fastest eFiling and refund ever in all my years of using SARS's system.
How many of you are capable of verifying the tax calculation by yourself?
Hi Guys so finally got my IRP and submitted today one question has anyone got a request for audit documents and supporting documents not sure why I got two requests for the same docs but have up loaded everything guess its the 21 day wait now
Yes, seems pretty standard 21 day wait now. The e filling system seems very sensitive so any small or seemingly insignificant movement or change on your profile can trigger a verification or audit. Just make sure you upload every document they ask for and everything else you think they may ask for the first time round. Good luck!
Friday 19 July, still no update from SARS. I requested a callback yesterday to follow up on my return but got the standard response of "still within 21 days.... still on busy status and being looked at..." Last year I got paid my refund in excess of R56k on 14 July but I didn't need the money as much as I do this year. It doesn't help when the refund due is substantial, this seems to further delay the process, either by means of an extra cautious verification process or mere spitefulness on the part of the auditor (at least it feels this way to me). I don't mind the audit but I really am dying to know their exact process as many people who filled after me have been refunded by now even after audit. I don't know what is so difficult about looking at my logbook and verifying that it's honestly completed in accordance with my line of work and previous tax returns. Come on SARS, we are taxed on time every month, please afford us the same courtesy on paying our refunds that are rightfully due to us.
Last year I had the highest refund ever, no audit and was paid very quick. I looked at my 2016 filing, I was requested extra documents and I sent them through email and they were checked after 2 weeks, the problem of not uploading docs on efiling is going to cost us. The problem is once you receive another letter it says another 21 days. We are in for a long wait this year.
It'a rather worrying because the initial request for supporting docs should not be a generic template but rather an exact list of information that they need to audit our returns successfully. I agree that the system glitch of not being able to upload once the first round of uploading has been done is a big hindrance. It feels like the auditors are sitting in another country, you cannot speak to them or follow up directly. you just have to wait until they tell you what's up.... "don't call us, we'll call you ... when we want to"
