SARS E-Filing 2019 OPEN!

I have been following you case, it is identical to mine, and I am glad you have great news, I am still in the boat you were in last Friday.

Pull a fresh Statement of Account and just check if the status of Audit/Verification has changed from YES to NO. If that's the case, you're good to go.

Filed 1st July-selected for Verification
Submitted docs 2nd July and updated log book

Still no progress report, letters or anything, I phoned SARS and they said they are still busy with my document, it is pretty standard as per previous years.. I guess I belong to the 40% that will have to wait 111 days.

I filed my taxes on the last day of June, and was surprised to see that I would be getting far less back compared to last year.
I'm waiting to get a chance to speak to our accounts dept. to see if maybe there's an error. In the mean time I have been checking up on things and I have some questions:
It would seem my bonus has been omitted from my taxable income on my IRP5. (unless its stipulated somewhere else.)
Would this affect my tax rebate positively or negatively?

As far as I know it will impact your rebate negatively if omitted. If you deductibles remain the same and subtracted from a higher taxable income for the year, you get more back. I'm no expert but that's how I understand it. Let's ask for more proficient commentary

They did this to me last year. Few days before 21 days expire, I get questionnaire to complete which then took another 21 days for them to look at.

And like clockwork, SARS waits until day 20 days to send questionnaire which now must be filled in. Of course, once filled in and submitted, they will take another 21 days to process.

Well depends on how their treated your bonus. Did they tax you on your bonus.

Hopefully, it will be quicker this year, they are trying to shorten the time, except if your issue escalates to an audit not just verification.

Yes bonus was taxed. As was my basic income obviously, so its odd to me that I don't see it on the form.
Was your bonus made up from contributions from your monthly CTC?

In other words was it a proper bonus, or something like "we'll put some money aside for you each month so you get a 13th cheque" ?

One is an illusion of a bonus, the other is a performance/company reward.

Bonus. % of our monthly salary based on how well the company did for the period. In this case 100% bonus.

Shucks, how can they do that for two consecutive years. Is it the same questionnaire as last year?

It is shorter than last year. Its regarding the property I rent out that is running at a loss right now. They want things like my rental income statement and bond statement which I already submitted initially back on 2nd July, and a reason for the loss on the property. Guess saying because the government is stuffing up the economy and it is affecting the property market won't fly :sneaky:

Morning all. Refund date finally shows on SoA. Looks like I'm being paid tomorrow.
For the new guys on here:
Filled 2 July
Selected for Verification
Submitted docs on 2 July
Verification completed 19 July (no changes)
Refund to be paid 24 July
No completion leter generated (same as last year)
Refund in excess of R65k (so the ammount due doesn't matter to SARS)

Good luck to the rest of you, I was the most anxious on here and that proved to be unnecessary. Trust the process, they stick to their timelines

Good to see you now have a positive attitude towards SARS. There is nothing like the sound of an incoming R65k to lighten the mood right? Congrats.

That's right. I still do feel that their workflow system is confusing. They don't apply the FIFO "first in, first out" method. In their defense, my return and all others I have seen on here was dealt within the 21 business day threshold.

Submitted my return online on Sunday (RA, Medical Aid and Tax Free Savings Account) received my return this morning.

Spending it on a nice break up the Garden Route.

That's great. Very efficient. Enjoy the trip. We did the garden route last December into January this year, amazing experience!

I am due for R67K...and no feedback or anything, submitted 1st July, uploaded documents 2nd July, selected for verification, called them today as my SOA has not changed in anyway!!!

" Sir, they are still busy and SARS is still within the 21 working days period, do you want the case number for this call? please press one if you would like to rate the service of this call, thank you"

A work colleague submitted last Thursday and got the return this morning. I'm on two weeks and counting.

If your docs are good and you've given them everything you should be good to go by next Wed the very latest
