SARS E-Filing 2021/22

Filed with taxtim and got refunded in 3 days. Haven't used the SARS efilling website or dealt directly with SARS in years.

Hey Guys, filled in all my information and summited everything on the 1st. Still haven't received anything and not sure if SARS requires additional information. On my income tax page there is a Message with a red exclamation mark that reads "Your income tax has been assessed and your notice of assessment is available on your efiling profile" How do I get to my efiling profile ?

Not sure what you mean with the bolded bit. By being able to see a red exclamation mark it means you are already in your eFiling profile. How else would you have gotten that info?

Here are some basic eFiling recovery tools.

Use this to get your tax number if you are still lost.

Or SMS "TRN (13 DIGIT ID NUMBER) " to 47277

If you're still lost. 0800 00 7277.

Once logged in your assessment (ITA34) should be here:

Choose "Returns" at the top.

You mention a red exclamation mark. But the message you quote makes it sound as if the system did what it should.

Were you able to get your calculated results with no error in the computation?

The most important thing - did you get assessed?

Been audited last 2 years in a row. Required documents just need to be uploaded on efiling so no need for a branch visit.

You are exceptionally helpful on this thread!
Do you work for SARS or anything like that?

Unfortunately, I don't work for SARS. I have too many ideas how to fix them and they'll boot me quick sticks for the increased efficiency :P

I work with SARS a lot though if I can put it that way.

Well I also would like to say thanks to you and Lara C. You both have been Awesome. I submitted so many docs (even what they didn't ask for) it will make their head spin, now 21 day waiting period. Lets see.

No problem. On a daily basis I would try and alleviate the fear of dealing with SARS. Sometimes this goal is not always achieved.

I wouldn't submit a mess of stuff to them though. Don't make their life difficult because they certainly can make yours.

Clear concise communication is required.

A cover page with a list of items. Eg.

"I, Taxpayer Details, ID blah blah, acknowledge the receipt of the verification of income tax return letter issued on DATE (YYYYMMDD), with case no: (Find it on the letter).

I respond to your request by way of uploading the following documentation to eFiling via the link provided.

The documents requested are submitted within 21 business days as required.

Please find attached:
  1. SARS Verification Letter Dated DATE (YYYYMMDD)
  2. IRP5
  3. Medical Aid Cert
  4. RA
  5. Logbook
Regards

Signed
Taxpayer
Date

End of letter"

And name your files accordingly (so it can be matched to your letter) when you submit them. And attach the SARS letter as well.

Make reference from any schedule to the relevant supporting document. Ensure that you address the requirement in the verification request.

Anything that appears generic would be a trigger to phone the call center for a more informed response.

I did. Everything is clearly marked , Letter from Human Resources, Employment contract, IRP5 bank statements, salaray slips.etc. In the same order as they were requested.. I just added Logbook, RA, Medical Aid Certificate, etc as well. Which were not requested.

Yes I was assed and Sars owns me +- R 4800. It does appear like SaRS required any more information so not sure why they are taking so long to pay ?

Normally get around 12k back with provident and medical aid. This year its 24k anyone have a similar amount and not get audited?

Hard to make out what you're saying but it's usually 3-5 days after you've been assessed with no review.

Nope, no such luck here. Submitted on 27/06, with supporting docs requested. No movement to date. Similar amount to yours.
But, my bad luck the last 3 years, has been that I had to wait exactly 21 days before any feedback. The year before last, they requested additional supporting docs, waited another 21 days before getting feedback. Ended up only getting paid in September, after submitting as soon as efiling opened. My wife though, usually gets paid within 48hrs.

Some years are better than others.... I had a spell of audits and verifications resulting in lower refunds or outright rejection of refunds. Then between 2015 and 2021 I had a great run of returns, super large refunds with minimal audits (only 1 I can remember). This year... I'm back to small refunds and being selected for audit... That's just how it goes

Mine is a Big one but my colleagues who are getting so much more are paid already. Very confusing.

And just like that, next day after submitting supporting documents the assessment is completed without changes.
No payment update yet but moving forward at least
