Another WFH query:

I was under the impression that bond interest can be claimed, however my tax consultant is telling me that SARS are rejecting these claims and saying that only commission earners who have home offices may claim bond interest.

Is this correct?

Got an answer. SARS are disallowing the interest on bond under s23(m). I will have to spend a bit more time to see if they are within their rights, but it does look like it at present.

I found the following article: https://www.bdo.co.za/en-za/insight...t-on-a-home-office-sars-does-an-about-turn-en

Extract:
The Interpretation Note states that in cases where home office expenses are deducted against remuneration income and the individual does not derive remuneration mainly from commission, interest on bond apportioned to the home office will not be deductible if the bond comprises an instrument that falls into section 24J (which is usually the case). This new interpretation is effective for years of assessment commencing on or after 1 March 2022, in other words from the 2023 year of assessment and thereafter, and the Interpretation Note states that this interpretation will apply from this date forwards but not retrospectively to years of assessment that commenced prior to 1 March 2022.

Mom past 8 years had audits this year not even verification.
Past 4 years I always had to upload documents (iirc verification) this year I'm clean (crosses thumbs)
Money in my account this morning

Thanks for the link, I appreciate it. It does explain SARS's stance.

I do see a method around this though to claim the deduction, but it's somewhat technical and may have limited success.

Interpretation notes aren't law though.

Aaaaand... The funds are in.
Thanks guys. See you again next year!

Why am i getting the " Saved with invalid bank details" thingy when i want to file ??

You were correct....... Standard Bank changed from Standard Bank SA or something..

all filed and accepted now

I received the Verification letter from SARS - see image.
It's not clear to me if they only want my donations tax certificates or all my documentation
Anyone have any idea?

All of your documents. If you only supply them with that one I can promise you they will request the others on day 21.

This entire thing is a farce. I uploaded documents on the 2nd. Monday I called someone at SARS and asked them for a favour. My case was allocated within 5min of the call and verification done 5min after that.

This is the sht you have to go through every single year

I got a message yesterday that my payment date is tomorrow. I will update you in the morning.

I haven't received my auto-assessment notification yet. Should I be worried?
Same here. I always receive mine. I'm sure it will arrive.

Owing to the pension transfer issue I also haven't logged into efiling yet.

I spend 80-100% of my working time at my home office in a separate, dedicated room which is used exclusively for work.
Sounds correct and deductible to me but I am no expert. I see on later posts you have got clarity why and are investigating/reading up on S23(m). Good luck with that.
has it been assigned? Did you submit docs?
So I submitted 28/06 and the verification docs on the same day (2 hours later). I was only assigned an Official on 15/07 (i.e. my submission evidence did not have anyone to even look at it).

Today is now Day 17/21 - meaning if they have still not resolved it by next Thursday - I can escalate it.

The crappy part is how they can keep ignoring and come ask for more paperwork next Thursday. I am hoping not but wow, this lead-on has had no happy ending yet.

Got passed my Efiling site pop up issues by using personal PC. ITR12 submitted, received IT34 almost immediately. a better refund that previous years.
