SARS E-Filing 2021/22

There were 2 separate bomb threats made targeting the IT infrastructure of SARS so buildings were evacuated.

The ombudsman also found that SARS is deliberately withholding payouts.

Since assigning an Official at midday on 15/07, they have just finalized mine this morning @ 08:27 - gave me a bit of a heart attack rejecting my home office expenses (like WTF) and saying I owe them R2250. Once I refreshed, seems they reduced my return value with that amount.

I am happy with the final value therefore I won't dispute it. Expecting payment by Friday morning.

SOA has a balance of R0.00 with a refund date of 2022-07-29. Tomorrow promises to be a gooooood day!

I think in this case the refund already left SARS and is currently making its way to its bank account thus the balance of any money owed is R0.00

It was negative. Now it's R0.00 and the expected amount shows under Refunds implying it's been released.

I can confirm I did not wake up like a centillionaire. Perhaps tomorrow
 
Got a notification (again) yesterday that it was assigned to an agent. Two minutes later another notification that verification was completed.
Accountant notified me that there were no changes (WOOHOO - Very decent payout), but no payment date specified on efiling :(
 
So some random information if something like this might have happened to anyone else.
After submitting, got two seemingly identical requests for supporting documentation. Didn't think anything of it and uploaded once; only after receiving an update that they're still waiting for docs did I double check. Turns out the other request was for a prior year so had to submit those as well. After I did that it all went pretty quick.

That could mean there is a hold on the transaction. You might get a message requesting additional documents. Did you draw a SOA?
 
You guys should really owe SARS.

It's liberating having them need something from you for a change.

That's your income tax return.

Mine wasn't issued upon logon this year, so I had to request it which generated the return almost immediately.

Log back in and check your income tax for 2022. Should exist and be editable.

Thanks I know it's my return but it's usually just available without me requesting it. Was wondering what is different unless I am remembering wrong.
 
Maybe not the right thread, but just a quick tax related question. Say a husband borrows money on their primary residence bond and use this to buy another property in their spouse's name that is then rented out as an investment property.

The monthly rental income generated from the investment property is used to pay the primary residence home loan.

The wife thus have rental income to declare, but the interest expense is on another property in the name of the husband.

Will SARS allow the interest expense as a deduction in the name of the wife and if so, do you just pro-rata it? If yes, what do you give SARS as proof of the expense, the bond tax certificate and detailed pro-rata calculations?
