SARS eFiling 2023/2024

April this year or last? This year, there should be no tax directive for the current tax period under review, unless they f***** up.
This year. I now just have to figure out who cocked up and have them rectify it. I e-mailed the pension fund administrators to hear what they have to say first. I'll take it from there.

yeah sounds like they requested for wrong year then. It will only apply to next season.

I suspect the directive is for the incorrect tax year. Or they are preparing the IRP5 with your payout for the incorrect year resulting in the mismatch. Either way, my gut says the years don't line up with the submissions.

The only ways to fix this is:
  1. Cancel the directive and issue it in line with the year the IRP5 that will be made out for 2025. (easy)
  2. Correct the IRP5 to the year of the directive and have the pension fund resubmit their corrected EMP501 recon for 2024-02. (hard)
Note: without seeing detailed facts it's hard to make a determination of what's really happening.

On the directive it says "Tax Year 2024" and the date is 2024-05-09.

Then the pension fund provider must issue you with an IRP5 for the 2024 tax year with the code 39XX (it changes depending on what you did) and add the directive number on the IRP5. The directive number on the ceritifcate you provided MUST match with what is on the IRP5 for the 2024 tax year.

What you can also try do is follow these steps:

Click refresh data:

Tick everything (Just do it)

Then this will show

If it (the IRP5 with the directive number) still does not reflect you have to contact your pension fund admin to correct it as indicated above.

PPS. For the love of your sanity. Please ensure the number on the IRP5 starts with the 375...

If you use the application number then you will be in the same boat

And still waiting for feedback from Sanlam, checked my Old Mutual fund statements and can see a very similar amount deposited in but i have no recollection of any notice from Sanlam or Old Mutual about it and can't find anything either.

Still nothing from Sanlam despite emails, calls and WhatsApp messages. I found the directive on SARS eFiling so it looks like a transfer from Sanlam to Old Mutual but why it was done I have no idea as the initial switch was done in 2018 or 2019. I am hesitant to submit my tax return as I have no documentation or correspondence relating to the transfer other than what I can find on SARS eFiling...

Its right though, that would be Tax Year 2024, we are currently doing Tax year 2023 no?

I refreshed the data as suggested, then looked at the ITR12 statement. According to the directive, it must be under source code 3915. I do not see anything with source code 3915 on the IRP5.

There's also nothing under "Directives" on the IRP5, but when I submit to SARS, I still get the same error message. I'll wait for the feedback from the fund administrators, and then possibly contact SARS.

SARS will tell you they are awaiting info from the fund administrators. They can only make an assessment based on a declaration. Don't waste your (and their) time contacting them.

This issue appears to be square in the fund admin's court. Good luck in dealing with them.

A bunch of folks are having this issue.

Trend seems to be: Sanlam and Liberty.

Our pension fund administrators are Alexander Forbes.

Interesting.

At least you know who to contact ;)

Send them the directive, the screenshot of the error and ask for assistance. I'm sure you won't be the only enquiry and it can be sent to the correct department to be fixed.

Make sure you get the IRP5 with the directive number after all this.

Started digging on Reddit on how long bank verification usually takes. Seems like the 21 working day line is bull dust and most usually wait 2 - 4 months. This seems really ridiculous

Yea pretty soon you'll receive the letter from SARS requesting all of your personal information, they use verifying your bank account as an excuse to update their personal info about you, expect to be asked for a nice picture of you holding your ID as well as proof of residence etc.

You can actually change the banking details on two separate taxpayer profiles at the same time and one will be instantly verified, while another will require a whole life history to verify, it's because they lack updated information for you and use this opportunity to get it out of you.
My kid was auto assessed. He was asked to load his bank details. We entered his banking details on e-filing and 2 days later funds were in his account.

I got asked to verify my banking details. Have to submit picture of myself with proof of residence to update my banking details after I went and changed my banking details at a SARS branch late last year.

Let's see where this goes.

There may be a simple solution to this retirement fund nightmare as it seems SARS didn't receive the recon from the admins.

The okes that are struggling to submit, I can help you fix this with the following info:

- IRP5 issued by fund admin
- Directive issued

@geezer, that includes you.

@Neuk_ , I suspect I can sort you out too.

@Kosmik , are you also in this boat?

Not me, my funds did it properly.

Did you book an online appointment / phone call online to speed up the process - I had to do it last year, appointment was about 20 days later, lady from SARS phoned me earlier to confirm appointment and when she realized it was just a verification she did for me.

Just make sure you attach supporting document to the appointment before you do, i.e proof of address, stamped bank details, and you holding a picture of your ID.

My wife had the same issue with Refund Reversal. Called SARS and the consultant told her they just need to verify her bank details which has not changed in 13 years and will take 21 working days. She was not asked to upload anything.
