I had to wait almost 4 months for my 2023/24 assessment to be verified after submitting the docs. Will see how long the verification takes this time round.

Got an email yesterday, Sars have assigned someone to look….

Today got an email: more in detail expenses for rental income!

So I am working on that asap….

Audit or verification ?
The supporting document request always says verification. I have only once had the completion letter say audit completed, rest of the time it was verification completed.

It is not a promise it just a wishy washy line to make you feel good, if it takes longer sucks to be you.

I also get it every year.

After the 21 days they normally close it without changes and the next day I get a message that I have been selected for verification again.

What I have been doing the last few years is, after the 3rd time they ask me for the docs I complain and take it to the Tax Ombud, They normally sort it out quickly. Otherwise it normally takes 4 - 6 months
 
I had to pay R97k last time around. Then they slapped me with a R100k penalty, which was overturned this week. And today I get an SMS saying they are refunding me R3k. Not selected for audit. Usually get audited every year.

WTF?

I wonder if they use mimecast? It is impacting my company as well
 
I'm an expat that is still tax resident, and don't live in SA. This year I'm asked to pay in to SARS, as normally my tax in my DTA country covers whatever needs to be covered over the 1.25 million. First time in 8 years, and the income/tax hasn't changed much over the years (stable currency).

Well this is according to the calculator, I guess I'll submit once I have transferred funds to my SA bank account ready incase they want to collect.

In terms of not becoming SA tax resident, is that something your bank can help with? Like FNB Private or Investec etc?
Since these tax companies want like 40K for doing the paperwork, and when I asked them they all seem shady as ****.

Old OTPs are starting to come through.

No luck from Ninety One. One consultant says the problem has been resolved and should be cleared by end of business today.

Another consultant doesn't know if the problem has been remedied.
